Watching while being swallowed by fear

There are not too many descriptions of ugly monsters, but it makes people feel deep fear, and the essence of fear is "the unknown is the most fearful". The process of watching at the same time can attract me to experience fear, hatred, and despair with the characters in the movie. The plot is quite twisty. When Sarah kills the little monster, you can see a female monster crying beside it. It made me wonder if something similar would happen if aliens broke into Earth.
When Sarah escaped and ascended to heaven, I could well understand how she felt when she stepped on the gas pedal furiously, and the accumulated fear and repression were also vented, but it was not a lighthearted, it was a greater fear, a fear of repression. Fear of being swallowed.
But in the end, I didn't understand, I don't know if all escape was Sarah's dream, or the director finally hinted that with this experience, Sarah has been able to face the shadow left by the car accident a year ago.
