I have seen many movies about Jews, and I have always been particularly interested in the movies of World War II. For this reason, I went to Auschwitz in Poland to visit the concentration camp.
From "The Pianist", "Operation Bernard", "Katyn Massacre" to "Life Is Beautiful" and "The Boy in the Striped Pajamas", etc., I have watched all the Polish movies I could find about Jews or World War II. No matter how restrained it is, there is no way to hide the fear, worry, fear, and separation from family members that the war had on people at that time. Facing his own death and the death of his family.
In my opinion, the protagonist's family in the story of "A Bag of Marbles" is already very lucky. Five of the family of six survived well. After all, many families were wiped out in that massacre. They are afraid, but they still have to face it. They don't care about fear, because they also have to face death. We can hear stories because those people survived, it is God’s blessing and luck. I think those who survived the war should share their stories as much as possible without affecting themselves, because Humans will never learn lessons, we are always making mistakes, even today in 2021, the smoke of gunpowder in some places is still constant. Racism is not going away, including recent incidents of Asian discrimination in the United States.
When I was a child, my father told me that reading history makes one wise. History can be like listening to stories, but when you listen to enough stories, your thinking will naturally come out. Human movements are regular, and looking at the past can prevent us from making the same mistakes. After all The development of the entire human society is built on one mistake after another, and reading history can help us avoid detours.
We make history every day, and we don't forget history.
Put a sentence you saw in Auschwitz
"Those who cannot remember the past are doomed to repeat it"
