A simple two-line parallel: Matt handles the family trivia after his wife's accident as the main line, and the Matt family discusses and decides who to sell the family island to is the auxiliary line.
The two lines run in parallel, pointing to Matt's final transformation: from focusing on career and ignoring family at the beginning, to valuing family and ignoring desire for fame and fortune.
Why is the movie titled "Descendants"?
Almost every character in the story, they are either descendants of others, or they have descendants of their own, no matter what age, status, or occupation they are, they also play the role of family. Perhaps the director hopes that the audience will observe the characters from the perspective of the family of "descendants".
