Endo Samurai Sheng Yuan has the traditional virtues of loyalty and perseverance. He can risk his life to rescue Watanabe Watanabe's wife, Kasao, who is also loyal to the royal family. But attachment is one of the three major sins in Buddhism (distinction, delusion, and attachment). Unfortunately, Sheng Yuan's excessive attachment is due to this and cannot extricate himself. His obsession and greed for Jia Su, a married woman, went so far as to kill her entire family in order to marry her. In the end, he forced Jia Su to sacrifice her own life in order to save her husband and grandmother. And Jia Su's husband is a modest gentleman who is unwilling to kill. He did not choose revenge, but let Sheng Yuan return to Buddhism and introspect.
The front of the film seems to be a traditional routine of dog blood, but the final theme sublimation is very successful.
