Director Ku and his Fantasy Age

I didn't want to write a movie review at first, but after reading it, I felt that what other people wrote was not what I wanted.

Some even say how the plot is.

Director Ku gave you two and a half hours to watch the plot and ride a donkey?

Even though I say I have a thousand Hamlets, I still don't feel bad about it.

At the heart of Kubo's films is imagery, as always.

The point of watching a movie is not what kind of story is told in the movie, but what the director wants to express. It's not even about whether people can understand it, but whether it can make people gain something. If you want to watch the plot, just watch the soap operas on CCTV 8. What are you doing watching Ku-director movies, you have to suffer for more than two hours.

Closer to home

Serbia, formerly Yugoslavia, is a land full of scars. When we were in high school, our history teachers would tell us that the Balkans was known as a powder keg, and Kudao's Serbia was at the heart of it. The Balkans have always embraced iron and blood, and the unique historical background has created the unique personality and temperament of the Balkans.

What makes this film different from the past is that it more reflects the hearts of the Balkan people rather than just physical scars.

The specific story is not spoiler, let me give some hints.

The Austro-Hungarian clock that bites from time to time, the aunt with bullets wrapped around her waist, and the man sleeping with a submachine gun, these elements are not placed there casually. The big goose covered in blood, the butterfly trapped in the well has its own meaning. Constantly fleeing, fleeing, fleeing, is Ku Dao free? of course not. Going through five hurdles and killing six generals along the way is also the director's image and self-expression.

We have no way of knowing what the director experienced in the war, but we can feel the immediate pain of the operation from the protagonist's hand holding the rope of the well, the despair and helplessness from the escape step by step, and the doctor's response to Da Zhong. I feel absurd and confused in the Tucao. These feelings also come from the director's understanding and analysis of these things.

The eagle, or the falcon, on the other hand, is the point of view of the "observer". This is not only a metaphor for us, but also a mockery of the relentless consumption of foreign media watching the Yugoslav war. Even if you see your own life and death in detail in front of the media, what you get is just a cold-eyed spectator somewhere on the other side of the world.

Time and time again the goose scrambled to get itself dirty with blood. Attracted flies are constantly flying around.

The war is over, but bloodshed and conflict are still happening.

The plane brought hope to the FRY at first, but gradually the plane represented death.

There was still no change in the battlefield, only the officers' motorcycles were getting better and better.

The bell, which has been preserved for a hundred years, failed to survive the war in the end.

The guarantees of the great powers of various countries also cannot avoid being slaughtered.

Every time the goose takes off, it forces the protagonist to take a step, but in the end, the protagonist is still accompanied by animals, which is also a metaphor for the passage of time, but the situation in the Balkans is still changing, and various problems still exist.

The story is a mixture of several real stories and the director's own understanding of the war. The director expresses the most real war and every ordinary person trapped in the whirlpool of war in the most absurd way.

Everyone was trapped and had nowhere to escape, even the biggest boss, the British General, was thrown into prison, even though he was still able to turn the tide.

Without further ado, Kudao's film looks like a pile of elements at first glance, but in fact none of the elements are superfluous.

The photography is exquisite, the pictures are exquisite, and the things to be expressed are also expressed. It can be said that it deserves to be an award-winning work.
