PT Barnum's bizarre museums and circuses are popular because of the general curiosity.
Definition of curiosity:
The American Psychological Association defines Novelty Seeking as a personality trait with a strong desire to have new experiences. People who like to be curious will be willing to take certain risks, and the dopamine and adrenaline in the body will increase after experiencing new things. In English, it is sometimes called "sensation seeking" or "neophilia".
Influencing factors:
1) Genetics: Some studies have shown that the dopamine receptor D4 gene on chromosome 11 is related to curiosity.
2) Dopamine: The more dopamine secreted, the higher the oddity value.
3) Age: Generally speaking, the older people are, the less they like to be curious.
Real life embodiment:
In 1964, an American psychologist named Marvin Zuckerman divided the reasons for curiosity into four categories:
1) Pursuit of excitement and adventure : Love some dangerous extreme sports, such as skydiving and jumping from a building.
2) Pursuit of experience : I like to experience different feelings and ideas, such as traveling to unfamiliar places, going to Internet celebrity restaurants to experience, and meeting new friends.
3) Eliminate constraints : like to experience the feeling of being unconstrained, indulge in sex, alcohol, drugs, etc.
4) Very easy to get bored : Familiar or repetitive things and people often feel boring. Some people choose to watch horror movies because real life is too boring, travel to Chernobyl where nuclear leaks are leaked, read last words of death row inmates online, share what everyday poop looks like, watch all kinds of celebrity gossip, and intemperate Shop around.
From the Guinness Book of Records (the most in the world), the Olympic Games (the strongest athlete), to the YouTube and B station videos of the "Most" series with super huge broadcast volume, all of them are to satisfy people's curiosity.
Advertising often takes full advantage of people's curiosity. They use special techniques such as new media, novel forms, and unique content to generate strong curiosity among consumers, thereby triggering a desire to buy. Of course, it can't be more peculiar than people can accept.
In fact, curiosity will promote the development of human society to a certain extent. For example, in "A Brief History of Humanity", it is written that people use idle gossip to identify what kind of people to work with is more reliable. Curiosity about other planets in the universe also promotes the exploration of outer space.
*In the movie, I got a passing score for the handsome and compelling Uncle Wolf and those lively and cute little girls. The plot is too thin, and the music is perfunctory (no different from ordinary pop songs). My current favorites are Nicole Kidman and Ewan McGregor's 2001 musical Moulin Rouge and 2016's La La Land.
*There are more movie/TV series recommendations on my Weibo (aka Maruko who loves to read), everyone is welcome to pay attention!
