Grotesque

At the beginning of the film, a dog was given a lot of shots. At first, I thought that the dog might find the strange shape and notify the humans at the first time. There are so many shots that naturally play a major role. But I ignored the close-up shots of the dog's eyes. The dogs in those shots looked calm and wise, not like an ordinary dog. Immediately after the dog was put in the dog cage, he began to mutate, his head split, bloody and terrible. The plot continues to develop. Of course, the humans in the base also have strange shapes. From now on, in my opinion, it will be the climax of the whole drama. Because of the strange shape's ability to change, people are suspicious of each other, and no one knows who among those teammates will no longer be him. As a result, in the midst of suspicion, constant quarrels broke out, and teammates died one after another. In the end, the three survivors decided to blow up the base. In the process, two more died. Only the last bearded brother was left. He bombed the base, burned the alien, and shrank alone in the corner. . At the end of the movie, the black man came to him, and the two sat opposite each other. This is an open ending. Some people guess that the two of them have been infected and become strange shapes. Some people guess that they are both humans, but they froze to death before returning to the cold Antarctica. The end of this story leaves room for reverie, and the ending can only be seen. Personally understand

It's really bloody and heavy! But also very profound! As a movie 30 years ago, its extremely disgusting and authentic scenes can still be seen shuddering and even can't bear to look directly at it. The special effects and makeup are so awesome! The setting that monsters can imitate human beings also shows human suspicion and unfeeling killing. It's really an awesome horror movie! The open ending is endless. It is a pity that the structure is slightly procrastinated and dull.

Antarctic research station = enclosed space = mother body, so it becomes a breeding ground for monsters to land. When the equal sign is linked to the "self-contained society", it becomes "non-society", in an exceptional state (plus monster invasion, it is a state of emergency). What followed was the re-enactment of social rules, and new laws were invented. This kind of narrative structure is so common in the long history of film.

The Thing quotes

  • MacReady: [holding dynamite] Anyone messes with me... and the whole camp goes!

    Palmer: Don't argue with him!

  • Dr. Blair: [throwing a fit in the radio room] You guys think I'M crazy! Well, that's fine! Most of ya don't know what's goin' on around here, but I'm damn well sure SOME of you do!

    MacReady: Christ!

Childs: He got most of the chopper and the tractor, and he's killed the rest of the dogs.

MacReady: [as Garry advances with his gun] Garry, wait a minute, wait a minute. Now, Childs, go around to the map room door. Talk to him.

    Childs: Yeah.

    [Childs exits]

MacReady: Norris, get a table from the lab.

Dr. Blair: [still smashing up the radio room with an axe while yelling] D'ya think that thing wanted to be an animal? No dogs make it a thousand miles through the cold! No, you don't understand! That thing wanted to be US! If a cell gets out, it could imitate everything on the FACE OF THE EARTH! AAAAND NOTHING can stop it!

Childs: [appearing in the map room doorway] Okay, Blair. Come on, man, you don't wanna hurt anybody.

[Blair whips a pistol out and shoots at Childs but misses]

    Dr. Blair: I'LL KILL YOU!

    [fires more shots]
