Reading Marriage and Family from the "Divorce Cooling-off Period"
People often talk about a sentence: marriage is not a matter of two people, but the union of two families. I admit that this is the reality of most marriages in China at the moment, but acknowledging it does not mean approving it. Some people also say that a good marriage should be when both parties withdraw from their respective families, and two completely independent people rebuild a new family. It sounds rational, but it's really hard to do. Marriage and family, to put it bluntly, is a balance between a rational system and unreasonable feelings. The system can be black and white, but there is no way for feelings. There are many unexplainable factors in love and family. Therefore, a good marriage system should develop towards diversification to protect the freedom of different people to choose their marriage (whether/when/how) and their legal rights in the marriage system, rather than becoming a bondage.
How scary is the black-and-white matching of feelings and institutions? That's what this film is trying to convey. All the absurdity is evident in the opening sentence of the film "Is the shoe size 44 or 45, there is no half size here".
