monsoon wedding

Probably the only Indian film made in India that I watched growing up. Heard some good reviews before. After watching it, I don't understand why this movie is so well received. The storyline is blunt and the acting is exaggerated. The love in it all happens between people of the right family and even relatives. All the young men and women are just matched. It's too unreal. The only thing worth watching is the Indian street scenes and folk customs in the film. I like their wedding song and dance scenes very much, but this is not enough to support a movie. Rather than a main story that takes place within the walls of the middle class, I prefer to watch the occasional flash of lively dusty avenues, people and vehicles of all kinds passing by. When the scenery film is good.
Ah? It also won the top prize at the Venice Film Festival. Did I miss anything?

The rich and colorful India is really a yearning for people. The lively middle-class story of marrying a daughter gives the impression that the whole drama is on the surface, and the inner drama is lacking.

The story between the wedding designer Dolby and the maid Alice is quite good

Monsoon Wedding quotes

  • Rahul Chadha: I just fell from grace.

Saroj Rai: My darling, you have to be standing up in order to be able to fall. I mean, if you keep sitting on your ass, nothing's gonna happen. "Only brave warriors fall off their horses in battle. How can kneeling cowards know what a fall is?" Listen sweetheart, the main thing is, you have to fight the battle.

  • Aditi Verma: I don't really know how he might think. What he expects of me.

Ria Verma: So then call him instead of Vikram. Now please go inside before these aunties come out and start dancing on our heads.
