Key words: fairy tale; story; top
Nowadays, there are more and more comic book movies, but few of them can reach the glory of 2008. At that time, "The Dark Knight" was the same, "Iron Man" was a blockbuster, and even "The Punisher 2" was very B-level. To watch, to a certain extent they are the pinnacles of a similar pattern, but there is another comic book that should not be ignored, and it is Guillermo del Toro's "Hellboy: The Golden Army".
On a lonely mountain in New Jersey, there is a waste disposal agency, which is actually a hidden "Paranormal Research and Defense Agency", which specializes in dealing with some supernatural monster events that come from outside common sense. The core character in it is a red devil who likes candy, likes watching TV, and keeps a large group of cats.
A fairy tale dream
On Christmas night, the little devil looks forward to Santa's gifts, and enters sweet dreams with fantasy of fairy tales. Ancient legends, not just legends. In this story, humans and elves and other monsters co-exist. The ancestors of both sides have reached an agreement that the human race owns the city, and the elves keep the forest and do not disturb each other.
But with the development of human technology, the expansion is unchecked, and the forest is gradually occupied. The elves who obeyed the agreement were forced to live in dark and damp places, and their glory was no longer there. The elf prince wants to regain the freedom belonging to the race, but the conservatives headed by the king are accustomed to the current life and are reluctant to start a war. The prince is weak and wants to find the lost crown fragments and release the golden army.
Hellboy, like all children, is suspicious and excited about legends, but he has become an urban legend himself. Extraordinary body, extraordinary strength, the face of the devil.
But in modern times, mobile phones and the Internet make it easy to spread clues. Many photos and videos that were accidentally taken, although they were blocked and leaked, still left a lot of unclear images and materials, waiting for experts to give scientific answers.
This doesn't seem to explain why the special materials we usually see are always unclear. This kind of innocent thinking is not the best source and nourishment for fairy tales.
The avant-garde stories
The setting of Hellboy itself is very interesting. He was a demon summoned by Germany during World War II, but was destroyed by the Allied powers in time. Dr. Bloom took him in and raised him as a human being. Although he is ugly and out of place, he is full of childishness, and he has a kind heart in his heart, but he cannot be a bridge between humans and monsters, because he is different on both sides.
In the first Nazi remnant, Summoning the Doomsday Cthulhu, was very advanced. But the enemies of the previous episode are still evil people, the scum of mankind. In this part, he is fighting against non-human aliens, and it is human beings who have invaded their homeland. So the story is bound to be contradictory and tragic.
In the film, there is a scene that works very well, and I like it very much. Hellboy is a stumbling block for the revival of the elves. The Elf Prince deliberately released the last elemental elves, allowing Hellboy to choose between humans and monsters. Hellboy chose human beings, and the deceased elves spread out into green plants, all around, very beautiful. His righteous deeds have not been approved by mankind and are still hated.
In this clip, death is presented in a beautiful state of death, and in the bloom, the world is quiet, and Hellboy is carrying the child in his arms, looking around quietly, so quiet, so desolate. Only the creator's real input and creation can feel this kind of feeling that jumps out of the text and is detached from the body. This fragment may be enough.
Three, whimsical ideas
"The Golden Legion" has three important creators: the comic book original Mike Mignola, the starring character Ron Perlman and the film director Guillermo del Toro. There are still some differences between the movie and the comics, and Ron Perlman's performance is also very suitable, but the important thing to talk about is the top himself.
There is always something that is tied to its creator, and Guillermo del Toro is one such creator. "Pacific Rim" has restored the dream of mecha to many people, but I think the most important thing about the top is the dream of monsters, and the representative is "Golden Legion".
Top is an uncompromising monster lover, his house, his notes, these are all, from the tidbits, he has a lot of ideas that have been cut off due to production and budget, but he still tries his best to do each of his works to the original.
Although it is a low-cost comic film, Gyro has put a lot of effort into it, whether it is photography or editing, it is not sloppy at all, and many shots are also designed to be very interesting, which is very rare in commercial films. And the monster design, which the spinning top is best at, shines brightly in this film and is extremely brilliant.
From the "troll market" that has not been around for a long time, those various and sophisticated devices are dazzling. There are also various symbols and textures, which add a different style to the world. This kind of seriousness is really too little. These detailed groupings make this film have a lot of things to remember.
"The Golden Legion" is one of my favorite comics, it immersed me like a child. Because it contains the charisma of a loved one who is devoted to it, which makes one believe that there is indeed a magic in the film.
