Maybe it's because I think too much. Friends who watched this movie with me reminded that this rating may be due to the issue of child soldiers in the African civil war. These underage children were taken away by rebels or guerrillas from various villages, and they were thoroughly brainwashed and then taught into mini-type killing machines. They smoked, drank, took drugs, and carried out village massacres with adult soldiers. They are dressed in military uniforms (most of the time these military uniforms are very tattered), hold machine guns, and call themselves "natural killing machines", "don't miss one", and "killer squad captain". This kind of thing seems a bit unrealistic. It’s just that we already understand that the cruel reality of this world loves to wear the cloak of madness, so as to cover up the corruption inside.
The atmosphere of the movie is really heavy. Whether it’s a shootout or a hunt in the jungle, whether it’s the greedy killing of adults or the bewilderment of old and weak women and children, whether it’s the vanity world or the devastated battlefields and refugee camps, there is a cold whiteness that even makes people feel I feel that this place is already a magic domain. Only the red clay of Africa, the land nourished by human blood, and the pink rough diamond that involved the whole story, make people feel that there is a tangible color.
And the last cloud that Archer saw.
Before it was over, Archer called Maddy. Maddy was chatting and drinking tea in a quiet and prosperous European town. She said on the phone: "Where are you? I am coming to find you." He always avoided answering. He said: "I wish you were here." Beneath him is the red soil of Africa, quietly sucking the blood, soul and attachment of living beings, as it has been forever. Then the camera gradually zoomed out, and we and Archer watched the mountains full of mountains, glowing like fire.
At that moment, I realized that this African-themed film is the biggest difference from other works. The protagonists, Archer and Soloman, were born and grew up here. They are not middle-class people who never know where they want to go to the New World to fill their empty souls, nor do they embrace the savior's ideals to save this continent but they can always Outsiders who withdraw and leave, there will always be a retreat. Although this continent is impoverished, wars are constant, and people are ignorant, they can no longer leave.
This kind of soul torment, this kind of feeling of having to hate and cannot but love, many people from happy first-class countries can't experience it. They only see the greed, cunning, coldness, and stupidity of human nature in this film, or they see a slight light at the end, they may be like Maddy, a passer-by, and ask: "How can one change here?"— —This is because they don’t understand and don’t belong here. Archer and Soloman would not question that. They are just trying to live. that is it. The future of this continent was not changed by one or two people. It will take hundreds of years and dozens of generations of sacrifices and labor, and it will take the continent to be repeatedly ravaged and then settled and brewed before it can be revived. The dark ages are long. If we look very hard, we may be frustrated and desperate and lose our way because of the dark night that can't see the end. The journey from darkness to light can only be filled with the lives of countless old, middle-aged, young, teenagers, and children.
So we don’t need to complain or question. We just need to live as hard as Archer and Soloman. Or a long time later, our children and grandchildren can see Africa become a blessed place again, with flowers blooming freely.
