"Creed": Nolan's "Memories"

This film review does not involve spoilers as much as possible. Of course, it is impossible to evaluate a movie without spoilers at all. For the movie "Creed", spoilers are not a big deal at all. This is probably the most spoiled movie in Nolan's list of works.

The movie "Fatal Magic" that relies on a trick to hide the huge reversal can be called "magic". This kind of movie is the most taboo spoiler, because just like real magic, revealing the secrets brings great pleasure at the same time. The viewing of the show itself is also a huge destruction.

The "Creed" is different. The fun of this movie is not to understand the hidden secrets in the story, but to enjoy the visual impact brought by the unusual laws of physics. There are many details in the film that you can understand at a glance what it is talking about, but the way of presentation may be counter-intuitive and counter-intuitive, bringing a new and strange look and feel in a subtle and twisted way. If "Fatal Magic" is magic, then "Creed" is magic. The former relies on gimmicks and tricks, while the latter requires powerful spiritual power far beyond mortals.

As a veteran who has been blowing for more than ten years, of course my first concern is the familiar feeling in the new work. The beginning of the film is a big action scene. A Ukrainian opera house is occupied by terrorists, and the protagonist goes on a rescue mission. The rescue process was not smooth. The opening action scene played a role similar to that of "Inception". At the beginning, Leonardo went to steal Watanabe Ken’s dream. Although the mission failed, the protagonist still showed good results. Strength. This is the situation following the protagonist's perspective. If the scene of hijacking and rescue at the beginning puts the perspective on the villain, then the sense of sight given to people will change from "Inception" to "Batman: The Dark Knight".

The rescue mission at the beginning is to test the protagonist's strength and beliefs. Taking this as an opportunity, the protagonist joins a mysterious organization codenamed "Creed" with the goal of preventing World War III. To be more specific, what is to be prevented is the threat to the current world posed by the technology of reversing time, which is suspected to come from the future.

The so-called "reversal of time" is completely different from the "traveling through time and space" familiar to the audience. The retrograde performance of objects is the inversion of the result and cause, and the inversion of the starting point and the end point. A normal bullet is first loaded into the magazine, then fired out, hit the wall, leaving a bullet hole. The counter-time bullet first appeared in the bullet hole on the wall, then was sucked into the barrel, and then returned to the magazine. The whole process looked like a rewind in the eyes of normal people. To adapt to retrograde, you need to practice retrograde thinking. To pick up a retrograde bullet, you have to imagine the process of throwing it down in your mind, and then it will be sucked into your hand.

The reverse time nature of human beings is actually the same as traveling through time and space. They all use specific equipment to return to the past, but the specific implementation level is very different. Unlike the time machine we are familiar with, the machine that achieves the reverse time effect in this film does not transmit people to a specified time, but changes the flow of time. When you enter the state of inverse time, you need to wait for the natural flow of time (reverse flow) to reach the point in time you want to go.

Faced with such complex new technologies and new knowledge, the protagonist is definitely not able to deal with it alone. There are old friends and new faces who help the protagonist in the film. In order to investigate the villain who is suspected of mastering counter-time technology, the protagonist travels to the UK to inquire about a noble master. This aristocratic master was also a detective of the intelligence department when he was young. Although he had been a steward for many years after he retired, he was still young and possessed a lot of precious information. The noble master's name in the film is Michael, and he is of course the indispensable old drama bone Michael Caine in Nolan's movies. The father’s appearance is so colorful. I guess it’s because in the last movie "Dunkirk", the father only gave a voice and did not show up. Some old movie fans felt unhappy, so Nolan learned his lesson this time. He must be an old man. High-profile debut.

The new face mainly refers to the protagonist's partner Neil, whose actor is Robert Pattinson, who has swept the world with the "Twilight" series. "Twilight Zone" (Twilight Zone) is mentioned many times in the film. Probably because of this concept, the director thought that he could find the male protagonist of the Twilight series to participate in the film.

Robert Pattinson's positioning in "The Creed" is a bit like the 囧瑟夫 in the previous Nolan movies. The difference is that Jaycef is usually silent and low-key, faithfully acting as the protagonist of the protagonist. And Neil in this film may be radiant and radiant because of his smile, even overshadowing the protagonist. When I was young, because I couldn't enter the "Twilight Saga", I even had a prejudice against the lead actor. Now I finally got the look of Robert Pattinson. In addition, in recent years, I have watched him constantly break through himself in art films, and realized that he is a young filmmaker who is very aspiring. And this time, as a new generation of Batman actor and cooperating with the director of the most successful "Batman" series of films of this century, I have a hunch that the inheritance of the two generations of Batman film creators will look like Robert Pattinson. It is the same as getting through the two channels of Ren and Du, which will give blessings to the restarted version of "Batman" afterwards.

In "Inception", Joseph and Tang Laoshi are the right-hand men of the protagonist Leonardo. This time, the mantle of Jiao Cerf was taken over by a new generation of Batman who came from a family of vampires, but Tang Laoshi did not find a hefty successor. In fact, it is a great pity that Tang Laoshi failed to appear in this film. This regret not only belongs to the audience, but also belongs to Tang Laoshi himself.

In the middle of the film, there is a driving treasure scene in which the swing of the fire ladder is used to approach and stay away from the target vehicle. This trick is a bit of "Mad Max". I don’t know if Nolan absorbed it from Tang Laoshi. Inspired. In fact, this film is really suitable for Tang Laoshi to perform. There are a lot of scenes wearing oxygen masks. This appearance of not showing nose, mouth and only eyes is very suitable for Tang Laoshi's play.

When most viewers see "Creed", they must first think of Nolan's works, "Fatal Magic" and "Inception", which also have black technology. In fact, there is an early work of Nolan that has a deep connection with the film. In the final battle, the red and blue action teams cooperate with each other in the opposite direction of the time axis to perform tasks and reconcile at the midpoint of the ten-minute countdown. This processing method is very "memory fragments". That movie is also the timeline that converges from both ends to the middle and finally converges. The title of this article stems from this connection between the two films. However, "fragment" is a macroscopic rewind, and the inside of each fragment is still forward; while "Creed" is a microscopic rewind, and the unit of reverse playback is a particle-level material that is smaller than a fragment, which can be called a fragment. More broken "crushing slag". You can say that this old-fashioned new use is a little bit self-repetitive, but from another perspective, this matter can also be very inspirational: a director who has always persisted in creating creation has finally mastered enviable words in the field of film. After taking power, he relentlessly used more advanced technology and more abundant resources to sculpt and polish the precious creativity of his youth. The small and beautiful inspiration has gone through the years and upgraded to a grand and shocking feast of audio-visual speculation.

The bullet flew back into the gun with the trigger pulled. The lingering blurry image in Director Nolan's mind led him to shoot "Creed" and shared it with countless audiences through the medium of film as the iconic film. The picture is printed in everyone's mind. For the same pistol, the bullets are shot from the inside out, and everyone sees it a lot; if you change the direction, change it to suck in from the outside, and everyone feels refreshed. It is certainly not as enjoyable to see the bullet that has been shot penetrate the human body. It's like playing "God of War". The axe that flies out will split the mobs along the way when it is recalled. Of course, it is much cooler than hacking with an axe or throwing an axe to attack. The action design of "Creed" has a sense of play, but it is not trifling. Nolan still insists on his pursuit of real texture, even if it is a surreal action, there is a consistent set of logical support, as if to some The material reality of its future civilization is faithfully restored.

The game feel of Nolan's film is not only reflected in the action design, but also in the layout of the plot. Watching Nolan’s movies is always like playing a guessing game. This is an intellectual competition between the audience and the creator, and it is a very fair and just competition, because the creator presents the key clues to the puzzle to the audience, no matter what After winning or losing, the audience fully enjoyed the game.

The early Nolan was classified as a suspense film director. Suspense films usually win with stories. The audience, as participants in the guessing game, is in fact singled out against the "story". For a movie like "Creed", every action may make the audience feel a little surprised when watching it. It requires the audience's eyes and brain to constantly adjust their viewing habits to adapt to the discomfort caused by the setting of reverse time. A sense of coordination or even a sense of weirdness, and then clarify the logic behind it; once successfully understood, the sense of accomplishment is no worse than understanding a story. A movie can accommodate countless details of such actions for the audience to enjoy. The audience will not just guess or understand the story and then do nothing. Instead, they will open their eyes and constantly dig out the rich visual information in the film, and because of unlocking The meaning behind each detail is constantly reaping the sense of accomplishment. This kind of unspeakable pleasure is brought about by audio-visual art and is no longer entirely dependent on the story.

In order to achieve the full collection of the game, sometimes it takes two weeks and three weeks to return to the game world after clearing the level. The same goes for movies with a game-like feel. Massive details may not be visible the first time you watch them, so it's worth two brushes and three brushes. As a veteran with more than ten years of blowing experience, Nolan in my eyes must first be a successful commercial blockbuster director. And his method of realizing commercial value is not to make crazy sequels and build universes by selling new year goods, but to make every work he produces worthy of repeated experience and recollection by the audience, making a movie worth more than others. If our audiences are not lazy, then more directors will stand and earn money in a way that respects the art of film.
