I didn't know how contradictory human nature was at that time. I didn't know how much pretentiousness was in sincerity, how much vileness was in nobility, or how much virtue was found even in evil. The mean and the great, the evil and the good, the hatred and the love can coexist in the same heart without being mutually exclusive. -- Somerset Maugham, The Moon and Sixpence
Influenced by the star detective "Terrorist Nursery Rhymes", I was afraid when I saw the nursery rhymes. Later, I learned that Mingzhen was a tribute to Grandma's classic work "No One Survives". Many of her works used innocent nursery rhymes to contrast the curse of terrifying murder.
One, two and three children, four, five and six children, and seven and eight lovely children, play snowball hand in hand, play snowball hand in hand, see page 8 of a book, and finish singing a song In the fourth sentence, a candy has only been bitten in half, there are five children left, a pair of slippers has been lost, the second volume of a code has been recited, a shotgun has been loaded, and two children are left.
When I first saw "The Beer Murder", I was puzzled by the English name of the movie "Five Little Pigs". When I read the original book, it turned out to be from a nursery rhyme:
One little pig went to market,
One little pig stayed at home,
One little pig had roast beef,
One little pig had none,
One little pig cried "Wee Wee Wee"...
A little pig went to the market;
A little pig stays at home;
A little pig ate roast beef;
A little pig finds nothing;
A little pig comes home crying...
The case tells that Detective Poirot was commissioned by the orphaned daughter Lucy to investigate an unsolved case 16 years ago: his father Claire, a painter, was murdered by a glass of beer, and his mother Caroline was sentenced to hang as the murderer. Before Caroline died, she sent a letter to Lucy, revealing that she was not the murderer.
Poirot locked five clients from Caroline's defense attorney's account. If Caroline was not the real murderer, then the murderer must be among the five of them.
As Poirot recalls the past with the client one by one, everyone's emotions have changed, and love and hate are intertwined.
1st place: Best friend - Philip
Philip grew up with Claire and Caroline. He was sunny and confident when he was a child, but now he looks a little gloomy. I don't know if it was because of the tragic end of the two friends. But in this gloom, there is a hint of vulnerability.
He was not happy for Poirot to reveal the past, but when Poirot emphasized that it was two lives, he calmed down and continued to accept Poirot's questioning. He stated that he had determined that the murderer was Caroline, and his words revealed a strong disgust for Caroline.
Second Place: Neighbor/Friend - Meredith
Compared with Philip's concealment, Meredith feels very frank, saying that he loves Caroline. But he and Krel are the huge gap between the diaosi and the rich and handsome, which made him give up his love. He believed Caroline was innocent, he believed she took her own poison in order to kill herself.
At the same time, he disapproved of Krell's behavior in the name of art.
Third place: Claire's lover - Elsa
Elsa is undoubtedly beautiful. She has a mature tension beyond her age. Facing what she wants, she is desperate to get him, just like "Krell". She became Krel's muse, dressed up in an English manor, full of expressiveness, making the painter Krel crazy.
Claire paints her frantically, Elsa believes Claire loves her deeply, she declares war on her first wife Caroline: Claire wants to marry me, I will live in.
Krell died, and Caroline was hanged. She was cruel: My goal was achieved, that woman was sentenced to hang.
Fourth place: Caroline's sister - Angela
Caroline is beautiful and proud. The only thing she didn't dare to face was her sister Angela. As a child, out of jealousy, she smashed a heavy weight scale on her baby sister, Angela was disfigured. In the days to come, Caroline doted on Angela and gave her the greatest care. Also because of the irreparable fault caused by emotions, Caroline tried her best to control her emotions in the face of the mistress.
And the arrogance and unbalance of care caused by this kind of doting made Krel unbearable. He often quarreled with Angela and sneered at Angela.
Angela decided to give him some punishment and play with the beer.
She didn't believe that her sister, who became more and more calm, was the murderer, but her sister's letter acquiesced in everything: she felt more relaxed than ever.
Fifth place: Angela's tutor - Mrs. Didisham
Mrs. Didisham respects Caroline, the mistress of the family, and despises the man, Claire. There are many reasons: having studied painting, she felt that Krell, who called herself a painter, could not even do basic composition, was unfaithful to his wife, and was not loving to his wife and sister.
She was sure that the murderer was Caroline, because she saw Caroline destroy the scene with her own eyes. She did not testify against Caroline to the judge.
After this round, I think the murderer is the secretive Philip or the beer-fiddling Angela.
Poirot and Lucy called their old friends back to the manor where the crime happened.
Meredith and Angela testified that Philip and Caroline had an unusual relationship and had emotional entanglements. Angela even stated that she had seen Caroline in a nightdress come out of Philip's room in grief and indignation in the middle of the night. .
Philip told Poirot the truth. He didn't like Caroline. On the contrary, he hated her and Elsa, because the person he loved, the one he had loved since childhood, was Claire. Caroline went to his room to test his feelings for Claire.
Does Meredith really love Caroline? Or jealous of Claire who has everything? After the trial, he confessed to Elsa in the car. Whether or not Krell has everything he wants.
It is true that Caroline took the poison psilocybin from Meredith's laboratory and was seen by Elsa. Krell told Caroline, who was on the verge of collapse, that he did have a crush on Elsa, but that was in the past, he was only doing art, and Elsa was no different from the woman before him. After the painting was finished, he would personally send Elsa away.
Elsa, who heard everything outside the window, was burning with flames in her heart. The man she loved was taking advantage of her, and now she was sympathized by her wife. She secretly took out Caroline's poison and poured it into Krell's beer.
Angela never thought of the prank she wanted to make with beer. By coincidence, my sister thought that the murderer was herself. In order to help herself cover up and disguise the crime scene as suicide, her sister did not defend herself in a favorable way and took the charge of murdering her husband.
And she was finally relieved, so she told her sister that she felt more relaxed than ever, and hoped that her sister would live well.
A very simple suspense drama, there are no bloody pictures, or even direct corpses and death scenes. The rhythm is neither rushed nor slow, like a low-pitched nursery rhyme.
In the final minutes, Poirot reveals that the murderer is Elsa, who loves to hate. Elsa, like an outsider, said calmly: I feel them lived but I died then.
A girl's lover paints for the girl, and the girl poisons him, watching her lover die.
Can't help secretly applauding: grandma is grandma, the plot is reversed, what do you think love is?
At the end of the film, there is still no painting that Krell is crazy about, and we can't verify whether Mrs. Didisham's complaints about Krell are true.
In the end, the family, love, and friendship we thought were all turned upside down. In the face of the truth, the naked and complex human nature was exposed.
