The French guards made tricks when complaining about King Arthur. The sentence "Your mother was a hamster and your father smelt of elderberries" is said to be a blunt literal translation of a French swear word. Hamsters are highly reproductive, and elderberries (elderberries) were once used to make wine. So what the French soldiers really want to express is "Your mom is a whore and your dad is an alcoholic"
