The master's first sound film is listed by the U.S. National Film Registry of the Library of Congress as a "movie of cultural, historical, and artistic significance." It has always continued Chaplin's humorous style. I liked the Hitler speech he imitated very much. It was full of nonsense and babble. It was a great mockery of Hitler. The funniest thing is that if you listen carefully, you can still hear him talking In German it says "schnitzel" "sauerkraut" "ham".
This should be Chaplin's most famous movie. It satirized the great dictator Hitler. Even the shape is very similar to Hitler. I heard that Hitler himself had seen this movie.
This is Chaplin's first sound film, the purpose is to express the anger at the dictator in his own words, which is the film's final climax - the speech.
Chaplin definitely needed a lot of courage to make this film. This film was released in 1940, which was Hitler's most arrogant year. During the filming of this film, it was under pressure from German and American fascist organizations, but Zhuo Zhuo's film was released in 1940. Beelin was unafraid to openly challenge the Nazis, and while Hitler himself said nothing after watching the film, Chaplin especially wanted to know what he thought of the film.
Before watching this movie, Chaplin's image in my mind was a comedy master, a humorous, wobbly little man with a mustache, but after watching "The Great Dictator" I realized that Chaplin Lin is a true artist.
I want to end with one of my favorite speeches at the end of the film.
Hannah, can you hear me? Wherever you are, look up Hannah. The clouds are lifting! The sun is breaking through! We are coming out of the darkness into the light. We are coming into a new world - a kindlier world, where men will rise above their hate, their greed and their brutality. Look up, Hannah! The soul of man has been given wings and at last he is beginning to fly. He is flying into the rainbow - into the light of hope, into the future, the glorious future that belongs to you, to me, and to all of us. Look up, Hannah... look up!" Hannah, do you hear what I'm saying? Look up! Look up, Hannah! The clouds are dissipating! The sun is shining! We are leaving the darkness and entering the light!
We are entering a new world - a more lovely world where people will overcome their greed, their hatred, their cruelty. Look up, Hannah! The souls of men have grown wings, and they are finally ready to fly. They flew into the neon - into the light of hope. Look up, Hannah! Look up!
