Recently I watched two movies about friendship more than love, one is [Sincerely Half-Understanding] and the other is [Dating Story]. Both are themes of youth, the pure friendship between young men and women, and they are also themes of same-sex identity. Of course, the identity in the dating story obviously occupies the center of the play.
The female protagonist is more mature than the male protagonist. She didn't know her sexual orientation from the beginning. After she met the right person, she boldly confessed her love and bravely came out of the closet despite everything. She knew too well what she wanted.
The male protagonist has always lived in the identity of others. He is inferior and timid, he is afraid of his sexuality, he is afraid of being labeled as gay by others, he forces himself to accept women, and he is not happy at all. At the end of the film, the female protagonist encourages the male protagonist to be brave and be himself, but the cowardice in his bones is difficult to change.
The whole film is very British, with British humor and Irish English with a heavy accent. Although the subject of identity is no longer novel, the film's focus shifts towards friendship, so it appears to be particularly novel.
