It is a worthy movie, which had won the Academy Award for both of best actor and actress. It tells that couple of people connections make them out of their boxes, and they are doing as well as they spread love.
Melvin, acted by Jack Nicholson, is an obsessive-compulsive disorder. He hates everything and refuses to give a hand to others. I know that Jack Nicholson is a diehard fan of Lakers, and he always sat courtside seat with strong intervention to disturb guest teams. I hate the role as actor self, but in fact the role is a successful novelist. He never interacts with his neighbor except argument, and he repeats his days as scheduled. He is a prickly man, and in a breakfast restaurant he is satisfied with only one waitress, Carol, who is a single mother and is struggling for her ill son. The balance is broke by a dog, which is a pet of Simon, a gay painter, who is robbed by his model's fellows. Melvin is forced to look after the dog because Simon is hospitalized. During taking care of dog period,Melvin reconnects the real life from hating the dog to liking it. When Carol disappears from the restaurant, he gets panic and goes to her home. After a embarrass conversation, he arranges his publisher that he will afford the treatment bill of Carol's son. When Simon is home, he is broke, so his partner expects his to contact his estrange parents for help. Simon is in depression, and has a strong clash with Melvin. With the assistance of Simon's partner, Melvin is reluctant to drive Simon back to his parents for money. Melvin invites Carol on the trip as a payback of his help. The trio go out of their original box, sharing their stories on the way. While romance occurs, Melvin dares not to move forward, and that makes Carol disappointment. Simon is lit up by the image of Carol's bath back, and reinforce the enthusiasm of painting. With Simon's encouragement, Melvin eventually opens his heart and follows his inner voice, and then he bravely knocks at Carol's door.
Everyone lives in a box, and they get used to them and refuse to go out of the boxes. I like Carol's mother, who is a great ordinary woman, just like my mom. She encourages Carol to go outside, and to seek a new life. We are not perfect, but we can make it better along together. While you help other, actually you benefit from it.
