[French] Primitive Planet (1973) | Anne Laroux

A surreal sci-fi animation, its weird style and ironic plot seem to be the work of Dali and Jonathan Swift's cross-era cooperation, but all the whimsy seems to benefit from the director Anne Laroux spent five years as a caregiver in a mental hospital.
The blue-skinned Drago people have advanced science and culture. The spirit can get rid of the body and stray alone. Through meditation, they can transmit their thoughts to the original planet for reproduction. The Aum people have human appearance and almost primitive way of life, cold weapons, tribal eldership, and sexual reproduction. The Drago people regard the Aum as ants, and sometimes keep them as pets. When the Drago was learning knowledge, the Aum overheard their civilization and technology, and stole it to teach it when they escaped. Headphones of knowledge, and passing this on to other Aums, became Prometheus' tinder. So the Drago massacred the Aum, and the Aum rose up in resistance.
In the analysis of the cultural turmoil, dystopia, political metaphor and post-colonialism of the times, I feel that this is a conjecture on the development history of human civilization, and it is also a sci-fi expression of the mythological system. Stealing civilization, perhaps the origin of human civilization is the misappropriation of higher-dimensional civilization to develop today. We cannot deny the existence of alien civilization from the beginning. Just as the gods in Greek mythology bullied and repressed humans, it is also like our repression of creatures like ants that have a huge and complete system.
At the beginning of the film, the Aum woman fled with her child in her arms, and the Drago blocked their way with stones, made it difficult for them with plants, and bounced them back to their original place with their fingers when they reached the top of the mountain. It seems familiar to us that we also do these things to ants. Maybe we are the next Drago. There will always be ants who will be Prometheus in the ant colony, and eventually overthrow the tyranny of human beings and create their own planet.
