The story begins on an ordinary airport night: a major rushes through the airport, looking nervous. He rushed to the counter to buy a ticket, without a precise destination, only two requirements: fly west . fastest.
The major who had bought the ticket was still restless and kept looking at the time. Suddenly, the strange news that popped up on the TV made him panic and rushed out. He must act.
The major grabbed the guard's gun and hijacked a plane that was heading west immediately. And use the gun to order the co-pilot and the heroine to take off immediately, otherwise, everyone will die. In the panic, he also revealed an amazing but absurd thing: if he doesn't leave, the sun's rays will kill everyone.
The major's words were simply nonsense in the eyes of the co-pilot and the heroine. The two of them thought that this person is probably crazy. Although they didn't believe the major's mad words, they decided not to provoke him for the time being, so as not to cause unnecessary casualties.
At the major's request, they flew west to Iceland with the only fuel they had. At the moment when it was about to land, the scene on the ground shocked everyone - the plane collided and ignited a raging fire, and the scenes were as terrifying as purgatory.
The co-pilot immediately turned around and looked for the next temporary grounding point. After getting off the plane, everyone found that the world had already changed into a different look: intermittent internet, creatures that seemed to be baked in a microwave oven, fragmented news information... Everyone finally realized: what the major said was true, the end of the world is true came.
Just then, an off-road vehicle approached them. The crowd looked at the comers vigilantly like frightened birds.
The three got off the bus and introduced themselves. It turned out that they were soldiers who helped the local evacuation and were unfortunately left behind. They begged to board the plane and fled west with the others. The terrified people agreed.
I thought the team would become stronger, but an uncle among the plane passengers felt that something was wrong with the three of them. He started to investigate secretly, and then came across a piece of news. It was written that the three were war criminals who had committed murder, rape and other heinous crimes. I thought that I had temporarily avoided the catastrophe of the sun, but I didn't think so, bringing the wolf into the room made everyone fall into a more dangerous situation.
Meanwhile, the solar catastrophe became more severe. Derivative crises from the disaster began to emerge. The light disrupts biological structures, and the amount of food they can eat keeps shrinking. Carbon molecules were destroyed, and jet fuel engines kept failing.
The people on the plane didn't just try to keep an eye out for the three war criminals. You must also run in front of the sun and race against time to find the real shelter. At the critical moment, how do people escape from danger? What are the causes and consequences of the solar catastrophe? The light of the sunrise is chasing behind them, fighting with people and with heaven. This doomsday catastrophe is more terrifying than imagined...
It can be seen that the worldview of "Life in the Night" has not been fully unfolded, which is enough to whet your appetite. Moreover, one after another crisis emerges one after another, and the rhythm is tight and exciting, which is very exciting. Either way it's a good show. Look at the rating - 7.6. Although this score is passable, in A Fei's opinion, it is really a bit low.
The baffled Ah Fei turned over the bad reviews one by one, and finally understood the reason. On the one hand, this drama is too niche, and few Belgian dramas are known. On the other hand, there is a misunderstanding of the plot. First, there are too many scientific bugs. Sunlight kills. This setting sounds very bluffing at first, making people think that it is just a ghost setting made up by the screenwriter. In fact, it is not. The solar catastrophe is really possible, and there is a certain scientific basis. There was a meteorologist on the plane, and he deduced that the cause of the catastrophe was probably a gamma ray burst based on the known news information and the phenomena he saw.
Gamma-ray bursts are one of the most active areas of research in literature today. Until now, human beings have not fully understood its nature. What is basically certain is that it was the most violent explosion in the known universe. It releases the same amount of energy in a few seconds as hundreds of suns combined in their lifetimes.
Strong radiation can cause planets to lose their atmospheres and damage DNA. This point is also explained in the play. Scientists have said that the structure of food will change, bringing about a derived food crisis.
Gamma-ray bursts occur almost every day in the universe, and their directions are random. If a planet with life is unfortunately in the release path of a gamma-ray burst, then life on this celestial body will be wiped out. Are gamma-ray bursts possible on Earth? Yes. Moreover, it has also hit the earth. 500 million years ago, gamma-ray bursts led to the extinction of a large number of life. In the second Ordovician period of the Paleozoic era, a mass extinction occurred, resulting in the extinction of 60%-75% of species. It can be seen that this cosmic catastrophe is real, and its power is extremely great, which should not be underestimated.
The setting principle is explained clearly, and some people are dissatisfied with the world view setting. They said, why go all the way west and hide in the cellar? This statement is also mentioned in the play. Three war criminals had told those on the plane that the man in the cellar was also dead.
We know that nuclear radiation can pass through ordinary objects to cause damage to living things. Gamma rays must also penetrate ordinary cellars. This plot setting virtually also provides scientific evidence for the doomsday crisis for gamma-ray bursts.
Even so, there are many people who put forward more detailed details to refute the scientific setting in the play. But it should be noted that the people in the play repeatedly say that they are not professional. Because they are all civilians. There are nurses, but no real medical knowledge, there are meteorologists, but not his scientific field. They are all members of all living beings, and they became doomsday survivors by accident. Now to face the sudden disaster, they obviously do not have excellent knowledge and force. So, sometimes certain behaviors of the characters are really hard to understand for us.
And this leads to the second point of everyone's attack - the character has no brains. It is undeniable that the actions of individual characters in the play are hasty and impulsive. Because of this, all the people on the plane are always getting into new predicaments. For example, the major accidentally injured the co-pilot's hand, causing the co-pilot to suffer from sepsis and unable to fly the plane.
But in my private opinion, these so-called "brainless" are precisely what makes this show reasonable. "Life in the Night" does not explain the worldview of the end times, which is equivalent to depriving the viewer of God's perspective. Let everyone always stand in the same position as the protagonist, and be equally at a loss for everything that happens. The strong sense of substitution makes the plot always like a taut string, creating an absolute sense of tension and excitement. And those who criticize the role of being brainless, because they always refuse to substitute, they look at the choices of everyone from the perspective of God. This will inevitably make them feel that there are intolerable bugs in the plot and characters.
Not only that, but the conflict of characters is not purely instrumental to serve the plot. Instead, it constantly brings out the character differences of the characters and the hidden human contradictions. Every little detail has its meaning. Take the city where everyone starts, it is very worth pondering - Brussels, the capital of Belgium. Brussels is known as the "capital of Europe" and brings together people from all over Europe.
Places with large numbers of people are naturally high places for racial conflicts. However, the screenwriter did not deliberately use this as a contradiction, but quietly integrated the racial contradiction into the character's character to promote the development of the plot. For example, the major is an Italian soldier, and the uncle is a Turk. The bloody two often ridicule each other's country with guns and sticks. The conflict caused by the end made everything go out of control.
In addition, there are Russian mothers, Moroccan cleaners, black eldest sisters on the plane... The plane is like a Noah's Ark in the apocalypse, bringing together many races, and everyone needs unity to survive the catastrophe. But no matter what, the contradictions between the parties can never be reconciled, and everyone has ghosts. This complex and delicate situation is very similar to today's seemingly peaceful, but in fact, disintegrating European Union.
The major took a gun several times and clamored for democracy, and wanted to show his tolerance, but invisibly exposed his narrow-mindedness and ignorance. This is also a metaphorical irony for violent populism to use democracy as a shield to launch massacres.
In general, there are a total of 6 episodes of "Life in the Night", and one episode is more than 30 minutes. It is really enjoyable to finish it in one breath. And the ending drama also buried a big hole, it is estimated that it will be left for the second season to explain. However, Netflix has yet to announce whether there will be a second season. But what can be known is that the inspiration for the creation of "Life in a Night" came from the electronic novel " The Old Axolotl " by Polish writer Jacques Duka . The original novel tells the story of a gamma ray burst from the sun, and some people on Earth stored their brain waves on a video game server called "InSoul3".
The original author, Jacques, also participated in the scriptwriting of "Under the Night". Combined with the current plot, it can be speculated that Netflix may want to make "Life in the Night" a prequel to "Old Salamander". That is, the story before humans uploaded their consciousness to the server. If this is the case, the story will have a larger worldview, with a strong doomsday cyberpunk style. At that time, it will be a good drama that cannot be underestimated. Bad drama, good drama, in one thought. Netflix, you must order dim sum.
