The film is about the escape and integration of Lily, a 14-year-old girl who lost her mother, and Rosaleen, a black female worker who suffered from skin-color violence. What Lily escapes is the corporal punishment of the indifferent and irritable father, and the slander of his mother in his father's mouth; what Rosaleen escapes is the violence under the color dispute, and the possible prison sentence of false accusation. So, with only a "Tiburon" note left by her mother, Lily took Rosaleen all the way from Taoyuan, Virginia to Tiburon, California. Because of the color of Rosaleen's skin, even after the Civil Rights Act (1964) was enacted, they couldn't find a hotel that would host them. By chance, a jar of honey labeled with a colored image of the Virgin led them to the apiary, the family of three black sisters, August, June, and May. There Lily and A witnessed the lives of the three sisters, feeling and participating in their joys and sorrows, love and faith. What surprised Lily even more was that August actually had a close entanglement with his mother, and this fate would continue on Lily.
The film selection of the bee farm is full of deep meaning. These six-legged little beings are full of wisdom when it comes to building well-functioning groups, especially ones that make the most of democratic decision-making. A common misconception is that bee colonies are ruled by benevolent dictators, the queen bee. In fact, the queen bee of the bee colony is not the royal decision maker, but only the royal egg layer. In a bee colony, there is no one omniscient central planner overseeing thousands of worker bees. Instead, the work of the hive is collectively managed by the worker bees themselves. Each worker bee is an alert individual who not only surveys and finds things to do, but also actively serves the community. Worker bees live closely together, co-existing within their shared environmental network, an enviable group coordination. The film uses the democracy of bees to look at the equality of civil rights, expressing the voice of eliminating the remnants of human rights violations and building a truly equal, intelligent and harmonious country
Unfortunately, the film's interpretation of the character of Lily's father is a bit difficult, which led to the decision of Lily and her mother to leave the plot for the sake of the plot. Emotional carving of characters tends to be simple.
