I was writing a book review of the original work of The Demon Hunter, but I want to say more and more, so let's write a simple review of the series first.
Five stars does not mean that it is really five stars. For some reason, although I can see all the problems with this show, I have a certain preference for it, perhaps because of empathy for this world.
I know that it’s not possible to adapt to a drama at any time. Epic fantasy works can really become more serious film and television. Except for "The Lord of the Rings" and "A Song of Ice and Fire", this is probably the third (count Similar non-epic fantasy works on the site, there are also Harry Potter and Dark Matter series)
Far away, in short, there is no turning back in this drama. I can only hope that it will gradually improve and show more of the extraordinary charm of that journey. I even hope that there will be a moderate adaptation and expansion behind it, and a third way out of the original and the game. It would be better if it can be supported by the original author's plot.
◇Multi-line narrative
Combining the reminder of the series and my own brain supplement, I think that the multi-line jet lag narrative may really be the correct answer to the first two adaptations of the Demon Hunter.
Although I personally prefer to honestly shoot a running group adventure road movie based on the original work, and wait until the second and third seasons to start, but it is really difficult to attract passersby.
The protagonist must appear as soon as possible, the important characters must be used repeatedly in multiple episodes, and there must be suspense and clues throughout. This is the practice of adapting film and television. After all, the Demon Hunter is not a song of ice and fire, the original work is not so influential, and the first two stories are not so coherent.
The three protagonists appear on different timelines and then gradually converge. This is a good structure.
However, the premise of this answer is probably the genius-level screenwriting and adaptation level, and the screenwriting level of this show is obviously far from enough.
Against the background of a few sentences in the original work, Ye Naifah did a good job of complementing, especially the pitiful and pathetic before being taken away really feels like the original. However, the layout of the Warlock Academy is too small, the plot is too long, and the final transformation is also somewhat vague, and the shock of becoming beautiful weakens by three points.
The Xiray line is even worse. In fact, what is more suitable for expansion is the growth and childhood in Sintra Xirui, which can also show some worldviews. Sintra’s demise really doesn’t have to appear in the first episode. This setting leads to "Sintra’s Destruction of the Country" to "Encounter Geralt", the experience of Ciri without the basis of the original text must fill the entire story. In the first season, Brockleron had to give up the real first encounter between the two. Xi Rui, who has not been trained by a demon hunter, is too thin, she can only run, be afraid, and be slaughtered. It is true that the experience of small people in the context of war can also be photographed very well, but that is too difficult. After all, the task of the screenwriter is to adapt, not to create a top story like the Demon Hunter.
Geralt's story is of course the easiest to adapt, after all, there is a large amount of original text. But the screenwriter is still too impatient and too confident. The several classic chapters in the original book, such as Don’t Be Evil, Three Wish, Hunting the Dragon, Edge of the World, really deserve to be written in several episodes, there is no need to be so impatient. Geralt and Dandrien's gag adventure is one of the best of the first two. I understand and agree that the screenwriter hopes to shoot the burning point of Suoshan Mountain in the first season, but the price paid for this is a bit heavy.
Even so, this multi-line narrative that did not achieve the purpose still allows me to recognize the team. Although there are many problems this season, and it is not even as good as Season 6.7 of Quanyou, my expectations for it are still much higher than the expectations for Season 8. Because I think the screenwriter of this film at least understands the original and loves the original, rather than pure nonsense like Double DB.
On the other hand, this drama has a complete original support after all, and the more you support it, the better. You don't have to worry about too much scriptwriting power in the subsequent original part.
Some people simply and rudely think that the screenwriter does not understand the original work or even read the original work. I think it is unnecessary. The screenwriter just didn't change as well as the original author. I always think that without a very good understanding and a bit of love for the original, I probably can't think of such a multi-line narrative. In fact, this script makes me feel a bit of a game script, and it seems to be made by a serious fan.
But the script of the game is indeed better.
◇Character
The polarized casting is indeed an unavoidable weakness of the show.
The almost perfect Geralt Clark (mistake) Cavill. It can be said that this drama would not be possible without him.
I understand that Ye Naifah cannot satisfy many game fans and fans of the original, but her role in the ugly scene and the beauty in the three wishes are still barely qualified. Ye Naifah's position in the main line soon ceased to be a beautiful goddess, but a wife and a mother. The actor himself can be regarded as a pay cut, and loves the original work and the characters, I think it is acceptable.
The casting of Teres is undoubtedly more unacceptable, especially since most fans of this worldview have entered from the Wizarding Game series, Teres is undoubtedly her first love. The only thing that can be figured out is that there are very few scenes in the original work, and the role of this character is gentle and considerate, with a pleasing personality. The series is difficult to be as "sturdy" as the original. If Geralt and Terris's "derailed" emotional scene are deleted, and she is only a friend of Hillary's sister Ye Naifah and Geralt, then This casting is not a big problem.
Fringeira's casting... I'm afraid it can be called a real disaster. I can only think that the series will not engage in the controversial drama of Tao Sente's Gentle Country. This Fringeira is the blade of the empire, not Bevringeira at all. And he will never "derail" with Geralt. On the other hand, the plot of the original Tossent Fringeira is really unacceptable.
Xi Rui's role was delayed by her embarrassing role in the first season. After the training of the Demon Hunter, the girl's image and temperament were still sufficient.
Dandrien's casting is pretty good. Although the image of the wretched male in the game is still my first choice for Master Dan, the handsome young man in the series is also suitable for the subsequent plots.
Generally speaking, the casting of the first season will not directly obliterate the hope behind. After all, Geralt's personal proportion in the Demon Hunter's story is too big. The second is Xi Rui. The third is Master Dan. The fourth is Ye Naifah. Delete the love scene between Triss and Fringeira. (If you want to engage in a love triangle, please choose Xia Ni carefully)
◇Scene
The biggest highlight of Quanyou.
The scene of the Demon Hunter's World is more fantastic and wonderful, and I hope that it can show more if the follow-up funds are sufficient.
Of course, there are already in the game.
The episode of the first season of The Edge of the World is not bad (although the elf is hard to complain). Others have not been covered anyway.
I hope that Novigrad, Gosvilen, Sinide Island, Towson and other places can have a good performance.
◇Write at the end
It seems that I did not say my true evaluation of the show in the end.
I think this is like a telescope.
It is enough to be able to show me the world, but have more regrets.
Even if there is so much dust.
This is probably the mentality of my original fan and game fan, which is different from many people.
The original book is confusing and unforgettable for a long time. The game has healed some regrets that seem like a fantasy and still have shallow regrets. The drama is like the last journey in this world. I hope it will never end.
Next, while waiting for the follow-up episodes, I am going to slowly finish the book review of the original book, and switch to the graphics card to play the game again from The Witcher 1.
◇Another conclusion
Being purely poetic is a little useless, so rationally say again why I am looking forward to the drama.
There is an impeccable and serious actor. (And the status of the hero in the Demon Hunter story is too high)
There is a very good male number two. (Geralt is incomplete without Master Dan)
The other characters are not as perfect as the game, but considering that the emotional scene between Triss and Fringeira is deleted, it is acceptable.
Although Suoshan Mountain has a reputation for fighting against the village head, the original work does not describe it directly. The atmosphere of the drama and the setting of suppressive ignition points are still in place. After the funding comes up, it is still worth looking forward to.
Subsequent original stories are getting easier and easier to adapt.
Although the first quarter has a mediocre wind review, it is not bad, and the popularity is also good. The funding for the next quarter is still guaranteed.
Epic dramas are always slow.
The screenwriter who designed a multi-line narrative and Ye Naifa's background undoubtedly understands the original and loves the original. There is a season of reviews and summary I believe she can do better.
Compared with the double DB, they are very good in the design of the scene, the atmosphere of the war, and the balance, but they are extremely bad at the original plot, and they don’t love the original (otherwise they can’t make Sansa dedicated to the little skinner, Stannis burns his daughter. Kind of thing).
In summary, although the starting point is far worse than Quan You, I believe that the ending point will be better than Quan You.
