Patriots - small people in a big environment

Patriot, most people will definitely make preconceived judgments just by hearing the name. It is also a movie that promotes American ideology and individualistic values. Of course, when I first watched the movie, I also held this kind of consciousness from the beginning. The subjective concept of form to appreciate the film. At the end of the first viewing of the film, I felt that the early Americans were just judging this from the perspective of defending the homeland and the country, but they did not know that they were also the invaders of "defending the homeland and defending the country". In order to expand the product of the overseas colonization of the territory, I wanted to write about the survival of the Indians in the American War of Independence and then I scrambled. But fortunately, I have a habit of watching films over and over again. As I watched this film again and again, I suddenly realized that this is not only an epic, but also a war epic. There is an unwritten rule in the film industry- A good war movie must be an anti-war movie. When I have this prerequisite, when I go to watch it again, I see a "patriot" who is the exact opposite of the previous one.

The protagonist of this film, Benjamin, participated in the war between France and the Indian tribes when he was young. During these cruel wars in the early colonial period, he lost his beloved wife and vowed to stay away from the war forever, becoming an anti-war activist. When people were discussing whether to declare war on the King's army in the House of Commons, he said: "This war will not be fought on the front lines, nor on distant battlefields. Our children will experience the horrors of war first-hand, and their innocence will die with us...".

But the minority he represented still obeyed the majority. As the war began, the fire eventually burned to his home. The British captured his eldest son who joined the army, killed his youngest son, and then set it on fire. his house. This became the last straw that broke the man who had lost his wife. He watched everything he cherished being taken away, and he finally rose up. When he killed more than 20 British soldiers with his own hands in order to save his eldest son; when he slashed hysterically at a dead British soldier, what I saw was not a A patriot who kills the enemy for his country, but a father who is eager to save his children, a little man who is forced to resist the current situation. In those chaotic times, this was his only choice.

One of the words of the priest in the movie is vivid in my memory: a shepherd protects his flock and sometimes drives away wolves. In this desperate situation, Benjamin became a shepherd, and his mission was to protect his young children and drive away the British army.

In the film, there is also a character that impressed me deeply, that is the black slave who joined the army on behalf of the master. When the eldest son painted him a beautiful vision of equality after independence, he just replied lightly: equality, It sounds pretty good. When he saw a notice posted by the government stating that slaves who have joined the army for one year can become free and receive military pay, a white man asked him contemptuously, "What can you do after you are free?" Although he did not answer, But his eyes were full of hope.

Finally, I would like to use a sentence from The Godfather to illustrate what a true patriot should look like in my mind. The outlook on life in "The Godfather": the first step is to work hard to realize self-worth, the second step is to take good care of your family, and the first step is to take good care of your family. The third step is to help the kind-hearted people as much as possible, the fourth step is to speak up for the ethnic group, and the fifth step is to strive for honor for the country. In fact, as a man, if the first two steps are successful, life can be considered complete, and the third step is great, and those who randomly reverse the order are generally untrustworthy. Don't say impossible, nothing is impossible. - Mario Puzo
