From "The Philosophy of the Tofu Maker":

Noda Kee: In Polygonum's diary, Ozu-kun wrote: "In the thirty-sixth year of the Showa era, from Shanghuan to Polygonum in February, I lived in hibernation and conceived the script of "Autumn in the Kobayakawa Family". Usually, there are few visitors, and they sing and dance before they get drunk. Therefore, the work has made great progress, and the manuscript is unwritten on April 21." This is Toho's work by Takarazuka, photographed by Asaichi Nakai. The staff were all from the Dongbao system, and they didn't bring anyone from the big boat, but everyone worked really hard. Ozu-kun once said happily that the inspiration for the story came from a true story: a woman who often visited Tateshina, his father suddenly fell ill due to a myocardial infarction, the sons and daughters gathered together worriedly, after a night, Father suddenly recovered.

The End of Summer quotes

  • Hisao, Fumiko's husband: The old flame is flaring up.

Fumiko, eldest daughter: I wish Father would act appropriately for his age.

  • Akiko: I don't know how young people feel about things these days; but, I think it's stifling to live with someone who has no character. In my case, as an example, if a man was a little wild before I married him, I wouldn't be too bothered; but, I would never marry a man who lacks character. You can alter behavior, but you can't alter character.
