It's also a moral kidnapping movie.

The movie is really bloody. A general loses a battle, but he doesn't criticize himself, but because he lost the battle, and then executes three of his soldiers for his own face, it's ridiculous.

Human nature is so dark sometimes! In the war years there was the darkness of the war years, and now without these things, there will be other darkness.

The film exposes profoundly and satirizes human nature. Even if the country is in danger, it is ridiculous that people in one camp do things only for their own selfishness, regardless of whether they live or die.

However, in the face of such viciousness of human nature, Kubrick's ability to photograph him is indeed a very good criticism. This let the world know that there is a general in France, whose face is so ugly and vicious.

When French soldiers were fighting, they could go out with a bomb and kill their soldiers because they were timid and wanted to escape back. It can really make people laugh.

I hope China can also make such a great movie, let us feel it. Westerners are indeed easy to break with tradition. They don't care about ideological constraints, so they can grow up fast, but because of self-interest, they fight fiercely.

It seems to be the first time to give a five-star praise. It is indeed a very short and powerful movie. Awesome, really ironic.

Trying to simplify the direct bloody and tragic struggles in ordinary war movies, Kushen digs deep into the dark side hidden in the hearts of senior generals. Just like the official residence of the French royal palace, integrity and despicability, as two ends of human nature, are constantly torn apart by meaningless wars. Under the premise of meaninglessness, what is meaningful (glory) is meaningless.

The rhythm is tight and the performance is tense. For the first time, Kubrick touched on the theme of rational institutions swallowing individuals

Paths of Glory quotes

  • General Broulard: Colonel Dax, you're a disappointment to me. You've spoiled the keenness of your mind by wallowing in sentimentality. You really did want to save those men, and you were not angling for Mireau's command. You are an idealist... and I pity you as I would the village idiot. We're fighting a war, Dax, a war that we've got to win. Those men didn't fight, so they were shot. You bring charges against General Mireau, so I insist that he answer them. Wherein have I done wrong?

Colonel Dax: Because you don't know the answer to that question. I pity you.

  • Corporal Paris: [the condemned men are awaiting execution] See that cockroach?

    [cutaway to the cockroach]

Corporal Paris: Tomorrow morning, we'll be dead, and it'll be alive. It'll have more contact with my wife and child than I will. I'll be nothing, and it'll be alive.

Private Ferol: [Ferol smashes the roach with his hand and adds with smiling sarcasm] Now you've got the edge on him!
