Protagonist Chris Taylor ( Charlie Sheen decoration) is a voluntary recruitment of middle-class students, he felt went overseas to fight for the country is to love each person's country of duty. However, not long after arriving on the front line, someone told him, "You don't belong here." A series of subsequent encounters made him have to believe this sentence.

Not understood by comrades-in-arms

There are no heroes in war . With long marches, lack of sleep, ants and snakes, minor injuries and minor pains, and long-term fears, Taylor quickly fell into a state of collapse. In a scene shortly after the beginning of the film, he was standing guard, and seeing the enemy leaning up, he couldn't move at all. After that, he slowly and unknowingly became a qualified soldier.

Wounded in the first battle

Taylor followed the team to search for the lost comrades in arms, only to find a tragic dead body, everyone was angry. Subsequently, a large amount of food and weapons were found in the Vietnamese countryside not far away. Barnes ( played by Tom Berenger ) felt that there was a North Vietnamese army hidden in the village. Then, shooting and killing the villagers, intimidating and interrogating, gang-raping young girls, and setting the village on fire began.

Taylor protects Vietnamese girls

Barnes shot and killed an old woman, and then prepared to kill all the villagers. As the situation worsened, Ilias ( William Dafoe ) came to stop and clashed with Barnes. Taylor also stepped forward and rescued the Vietnamese girl who was crushed by American soldiers. In the end, the villagers survived, but they lost all their property and hometown. This action became the fuse for the conflict between Ulysses and Barnes, and it also paved the way for the conflict between Barnes and Taylor.

U.S. Army burns down the village

In an operation, Barnes shot Ulias in the back and tried to deceive Taylor that he was killed. As a result, Taylor saw the picture of Ilias dying and being chased by the North Vietnamese army, and another fire was ignited.

Struggling Ilias

Every party has justice for every party. For the people of Vietnam, the Americans are the invaders, and supporting their compatriots to resist aggression is to defend the justice of the country ; for Barnes, cutting grass is to protect his comrades in arms, which is also the justice of war ; for Ulysses and Taylor In terms of not attacking the unarmed people, this can be said to be human justice . Ironically, Barnes shot his former comrades-in-arms , and Taylor gave up the bottom line and became an Avenger .

Revenge is over

After a fierce battle ended, Taylor also aimed his gun at the dying Barnes. In less than a year, the first patriotic youth saw the cruelty and darkness of various wars, and never mentioned fighting for the country. Betrayed by your comrades, take revenge on your comrades, and become a revenge killer . Finally, begin to reflect on all this. The war between two nations, unnecessary justice, a hero that does not exist. He concluded that our greatest enemy is ourselves, and the living people have the obligation to rebuild society, pass on everything they have witnessed, and find the meaning of life for the rest of their lives.

Oliver Stone's semi-autobiography. Compared with "Thin Red Line" and "Apocalypse Now", it is more realistic. The description of human nature is more direct. Because of the realism, the small scene is justified.

300 Great war movies, without too many war scenes, but more shocking. The description of the good and evil sides of human nature is quite profound, and the contradiction between the two is exacerbated by Sheen's role. No one in the film likes war, and indeed, that's probably what war itself is like.

Platoon quotes

  • Bunny: [to Private Taylor] Fucking pussy, man. He's laughing at you. That's the way the gook laughs.

    [to Vietnamese villager]

Bunny: Yeah, sure you are. You're real sorry, ain't you? You're just crying your little hearts out about Sandy and Sal and Manny.

Sgt. O'Neill: Forget about it, Bunny, huh? Let's go. What do you say?

[Bunny hits the Vietnamese villager over the head with the butt of his shotgun]

Bunny: Holy shit! You see that fucking head come apart, man? I never seen brains like that before, man. I bet you the old bitch runs the whole fucking show, man. She probably cut Manny's throat. She would probably cut my balls off if she had the chance.

Sgt. O'Neill: Bunny, we leave now. Nobody saw a fucking thing! You understand me, Taylor? Not a fucking thing.

Bunny: Fucking woman, man. Come on, man, let's fucking do her, man. Let's do this whole fucking village!
