you don't love them

The 1994 version of The Lion King, I even watched the movie and listened to the soundtrack tape, and watched it about 120 times in total. It's no exaggeration. I remembered every line and every scene 120 times. And this is just a downward estimate.

And this new version in 2019, I guess I will not take the initiative to watch it a second time.

I can't actually tell why I like the 94 version of The Lion King,

Probably because it was the first time I was shocked by seeing such a well-made animation blockbuster;

probably because of the music;

Probably because of Uncle Tie's voice;

Probably because of the helpless expression that Scar frowned and said: "I'm surrounded by idiots";

Maybe it's because the little Simba's back shrugs when he walks, showing the lovely intentions of the animators;

Maybe even when Ed, who can't speak but giggles, nods, the voice of "Gereng Gelang" is very funny...

Maybe because of one of them, maybe all of them, or something else...

However, based on the above reasons, I can cite a lot of reasons why I don't like the new version of The Lion King:

There's already The Jungle Book ahead, so I'm no longer shocked;

The music hasn't changed much, but I can't appreciate the cool transition in Can you feel the love tonight, I think it's gorgeous, it doesn't go well with lions, since their expressions are so stiff that they can't tell the difference between laughing and crying, then the transition Naturally, I don’t think it’s within their ability to do things like sound. All I want is Simba and Nana’s sincere expressions of their hearts, not Nana’s dazzling skills when she sings. Ba head. ;

Scar's voiceover is no longer Uncle Tie, of course, there's nothing to say about it, it's just personal preference;

Scar's line has been deleted, it no longer has helpless or playful frowns, and the whole article only has grimacing viciousness;

The little lion walks with the rhythm on its back, which requires 2D animation to be drawn frame by frame. When it comes to the virtual animal, it becomes the data that can be obtained by computer calculation after modeling;

Ed, who only giggled, was gone, and the hyenas became talkative and noisy...

Maybe because of one of them, maybe all of them, or something else...

Leaving aside these seemingly irrelevant details, I tried to summarize the substantial differences between the 2019 version and the 1994 version. The most important and obvious point, of course, is that the 2d animation becomes a 3d virtual animal. I thought about it a little bit, and it seems like it's just a visual change, but it's not. A series of changes that occurred later may all be caused by this.

For example, all animals have almost lost their sense of humor.

The humor in the 1994 edition is probably as follows: Shazu, Timon, Ed, and Scar. These people often use large expressions and exaggerated tone to gag. But in 2019 there are very few of them.

Shazu became obedient, and the scene of being swallowed by the scar at the beginning was gone, and the scene of singing in a cage was gone;

Timon's tone of voice became like boiled water, and the scene of hula dancing disappeared;

Ed became able to talk, and he talked a lot, and his eyes were wide open and the stupid and stupid look was gone.

Scar stopped joking at all, and kept his vicious face all the time, which made me wonder if he was so bad, how could Mufasa keep him all the time, and how could Simba approach him...

I guess this is because these animals cannot make large expressions in their natural state. Since this animation uses the most natural settings of animals, expressions that are too large are obviously very inconsistent. of. Without these expressions as a foil, the language full of humor becomes a more inconsistent existence: imagine the 3D version of Scar looking at Simba fiercely and saying to him: "When Baba is not around, you can practice Just a little roar of yours~"

Without a sense of humor, these animals lose a lot of expressiveness, and many things can only be deleted, and these deleted things can only be filled with other things.

So, let's take a look at what the 2019 edition uses to fill those gaps:

First of all, it is the change in the relationship between the coyote and the lion. In the 1994 edition, the coyotes are completely dependent on the scar, and the scar has always ordered the coyote to do it. They were completely afraid of Mufasa. When Mufasa went to rescue Simba and Nana, the three hyenas were crushed by him, begging for mercy, and then talking about him behind his back like a Q bad words. In the 2019 version, the coyotes have become much stronger. They are no longer attached to the scar, but negotiated with the scar on an equal footing. They no longer feared Mufasa shamelessly, but in the event of defeat, they formally and solemnly apologized. And the 2019 version even added the duel between the female coyote leaders Sang Qi and Nana. To reflect Nana's bravery.

These changes should be considered as a reference to the correct strength comparison between coyotes and lions. In fact, in the natural environment, the gap between coyotes and lions is indeed not as obvious as in the 1994 version of The Lion King. If the number is slightly larger, lions are likely to be Can't beat a coyote. So it makes sense for the coyotes to stop bowing to Scar. But in this case, after Scar became king, and before Sarabi refused to be queen, the coyotes were still at the bottom, and they needed to eat before all the lions finished eating, which made people feel a little puzzled. . According to the previous momentum, they, at least their leader, should eat with Scar. Maybe it's because if we really fully respect the power balance in nature, this story can't happen at all, so I know that it will be respected and disrespected for a while. And the confrontation between Sangqi and Nana is even more unreasonable. Nana said, "I've been waiting for this day for a long time." When did you start waiting? Did they go to the elephant cemetery when they were kids? At that time, Sanqi didn't particularly bully Nana, she just chased the two little lions with other hyenas. What Nana said made people feel like they had a special story before, but in fact Not at all, which is confusing. Also very unnecessary. It may be better if Nana goes up and fights directly, and saves some time.

Next, there are some silent scenes. For example, in the opening scene, a little mouse was caught by Scar after a long time, and then Simba's hair went through a series of things and got into Rafiki's hands. A lot of people liked these shuffles and thought it made sense, and I don't hate them either. But I don't think it's really necessary. The mouse at the beginning, in promoting the plot, the only existence value is that it is buckled by the palm of the knife scar, and the only purpose of the lion fur behind is to float into Rafiki's hands. The process of their wandering is really meaningless. Some people may compare these to the feather at the beginning of Forrest Gump, but it's actually something completely different. The fact that the feather was floating around and finally reached Forrest Gump's feet is meaningful in itself. , it implies that Forrest Gump and Jenny have no "plans" at all, but they meet everywhere in life, which is in line with Forrest Gump's chocolate theory. But mice and feathers don't have similar connotations, so it's not very appropriate to put too much effort into them.

I prefer that the time wasted by Feather and Mouse can be used for many emotional transitions, such as Simba and Nana after a long absence, from confusion to shock to joy; Some struggles; for example, Shazu should be somewhat surprised after seeing Simba come back... There are many things here, which may be explained because the animals' facial paralysis cannot be accurately expressed, but some things... I think they are simply ignored. . This makes me feel that this film is not delayed where it should be delayed, and where it should be rushed, the rhythm is very uncomfortable.

In addition, a small debate between Simba and Pompong about whether it is a circle or a line is added. Personally, I find this episode unbearable. The theory of circle of life, like the theory that "the kings of the past were watching us from the sky", was told to Simba by Mufasa. Simba should think of his father when he thinks of this, so after he told Timon and Phumbong about "the stars are the kings of the past", he was so lost, lonely and uncomfortable, because that was him. Something you don't want or dare to touch easily. So how could he easily say the theory of circle, this is really unacceptable.

Finally, it is to add some "explanations" to supplement what the producers of the 2019 version thought that the 1994 version "didn't make it clear". For example, in the 1994 version, Simba pressed Scar's throat and asked him to tell everyone that he killed Mufasa. After Scar said it, everyone immediately believed it. In the 2019 version, Sarabi said: "Didn't you say you didn't arrive? Then how could you see Mufasa before he died?" Then everyone rushed up. Personally, I think this is really unnecessary, and the audience is not a fool. Who is this explanation for, lions? The lions just don't believe Simba, so they need to use reasoning? In short, in the 1994 version, after Scar finished saying that, the lionesses rushed up immediately, and the audience's emotions were mobilized just right. In the 2019 version, after this superfluous questioning, the emotions of the audience and the lionesses Basically all were damaged by at least half.

There are many other things, so I won't go into details. In short, after watching the 2019 version, my overall feeling is that the team that made this movie (at least the main creators) did not really love the 1994 version of The Lion King, They don't really try to understand each character's character and heart. The feeling they give me is that they are completing an ordinary task, a film that the film company has given them to complete, as long as they make sure not to copy the original work word by word, and filming is just their daily work. Of course, we can't demand that everyone genuinely loves what they do, but as an avid fan of the 1994 version of The Lion King, I really hope that if there's a next remake or remake, there will be more of the main creators. Someone who really loves these characters.
