Doing many things hard doesn't necessarily lead to good results. After all, personal strength is limited, but at least he is worthy of his heart, isn't it?

Synopsis

Jack (Jack Nicholson) is a private investigator whose main source of income is investigating affair.

On this day, a woman who claimed to be Mrs. Mo approached him, hoping to help investigate her husband, Mo Heli, the chief engineer of the Water and Power Bureau.

She suspected that her husband had an affair.

Investigating a social celebrity is not a simple matter, but because the rewards are generous, Jack agreed.

During the follow-up investigation, Jack discovered that Moheri was a conscientious person. He was on the front line of work all day, checking water conservancy projects.

After a few days, no evidence was taken, only a photo of him arguing with an old man.

Hard work paid off, and finally one day, Jack found Moheri and a young girl rowing in the park.

But just rowing is not enough, Jack needs more direct evidence.

He followed the two of them, came to the place where they lived, climbed up to the roof to take a sneak shot, and successfully took a close photo of Moheri and the girl.

Jack successfully completed the task, but what he didn't expect was that within a few days, the newspaper published the photos he took.

The title is: The Chief Engineer misappropriated public funds to build a love nest, and the Water and Power Bureau was furious.

Even stranger things are still to come. A lady named Mo Yilian (Fei Donna Wei) comes to the door and claims that she is Moheri's wife.

If this is true, which means that Mrs. Mo in front is a fake, her purpose is probably to frame Moheli.

Jack is very angry. No one likes being used as a gunman, and he doesn't want to be a laughingstock.

So he went to Moheri's home, hoping to help him find the person who framed him.

Unexpectedly, Moheli died. His body was found in the reservoir. The initial investigation by the police was an accidental fall.

With Moheri's death, the young girl who had been in close contact with him disappeared.

This series of events is like a chain, which has been planned for a long time.

After Moylian learned the news, she decided to hire Jack to investigate the cause of her husband's death.

During the investigation, Jack discovered that the behind-the-scenes man was related to the dam project. Some people wanted to use this to make huge profits, and Moheri might be removed as a stumbling block.

But such people tend to hide deeply, and Jack has no clue.

At this time, a lady named Shi called and told Jack that she was the woman posing as Mrs. Mo at the time.

She claimed that she had no knowledge and was just taking a job.

She also told Jack an important piece of information. In the obituary of the Los Angeles Daily, there was the identity of the man behind the scenes...

Film Analysis

"Chinatown" is the second film made by the famous director Roman Polanski in the United States, and the first "Rosemary's Baby" in 1968 brought him bad luck. His wife who was 8 months pregnant in 1969 He was brutally killed by a cult, so in the film, he insisted on ending with tragedy. The male protagonist had such a line on the bed of the female protagonist’s house, "I have been avoiding someone being hurt, but in the end she was hurt because of me." In this sentence, I seem to see Polanski’s inner monologue, which is very Sad.

The film can be said to be very successful. It won 11 Oscar nominations, but it only won one award for original script. What we need to know is that the competitor of the year was the famous "Godfather 2".

The cast of the film is very strong. The actor Jack Nicholson is the two-time Oscar winner, and he is also the actor who has received the most Oscar nominations. The female protagonist Fei Donnawei was nominated for an Oscar for "Big Thief" and won the Oscar for her role in "TV Station" in 1977.

When many people were young, they had a dream of being a hero, punishing evil and promoting good, upholding justice, and protecting the people they love. The career closest to this dream may be to be a policeman. The male protagonist Jack is such a person. However, after working in Chinatown, he found that the reality was not what he imagined, so he chose to resign as a private investigator and use his own way to help people in need.

Jack’s sense of justice obviously surpassed his desire for profit. At the beginning of the film, Gully did not have enough money to pay the balance. Jack happily sent him away. Faced with the provocation of the bank staff, he repeatedly emphasized that what he earned was "Clean money", and after discovering that Moheri was framed, he took the initiative to come to the door hoping to help him find the truth together. This is not just a matter of face, but also the persistence in his heart. Otherwise, with his abilities, how could the deputy sheriff get Ailu in turn?

But can the defeat be restored by just relying on a sense of justice? The answer is no. Jack has repeatedly fought and failed. During the investigation, he risked his life, cut his nose and was beaten. But he still found the truth in a stumble, but only to find the truth. What's the use? Bad people will still do whatever they want in this era and this place, because compared to the general environment, a person's power is extremely weak.

"You might think you know what it is, but believe me, you actually don't know." This is what Jack's prosecutor told him when he was in Chinatown. Because the Chinese and Americans are culturally different, so in It is extremely difficult to conduct investigations in Chinatown because many things cannot be understood due to cultural differences. And the biggest mystery in our film is the same. Jack thinks that he has found the truth several times, but what about the facts? It's so amazing, beyond ordinary people's imagination, so I think this is an important reason for the film's name "Chinatown".

At the end of the film, I feel sad. Jack looked dull and said, "The less the better." These four words were also what the prosecutor said to him, meaning that he should try his best not to do anything in Chinatown, and he just wanted to. Doing more work before resigning, is also involved in this case, but the result? It proves that no matter how much you do, you can't maintain justice, punish evil and promote good. It's better to do nothing. It is so easy to let a person's faith completely collapse. Jack's partner comforted him, "Forget it, this is Chinatown", but in such a dark city, where is Chinatown not?

Movies have happy endings and dark endings. The reality is the same. What we have to do is to get rid of it as soon as possible. No matter how dark the night is, it is only a foreshadowing of dawn.
