"Mystic River" focuses on the dark side of human nature. There are many dark sides of human nature, this part focuses on friendship. Although the movie itself is gloomy, its meaning is calling for light. Dave was killed twice by his friends. No one helped Dave when he was killed. After the death, there was no care and help, but indifference and alienation. Both emphasized that "we are not friends", the guilt in my heart (not saving Dave back then) did not turn into caring for friends, but was ashamed of knowing Dave (social environment discriminated against Dave) and hated Dave . Sean was hoping to convict Dave during the trial, and Jimmy killed Dave based on his feelings and his wife's words without verification. After Dave's death, both of them were relieved. It looks like a new student. As for the two wives, there is a clear contrast between strengths and weaknesses, but they are both evil men, one is an accomplice in killing Dave, and the other praises the flattering murderer. Dave is dead, and all the sins are taken away by the river. What sin was taken away? Seeing death without saving, being tainted by sodomy, killing daughters (misunderstanding), killing friends. So, after writing here, I understand that this movie is not a case, not a suspense, but a simple tragedy about human feelings.
Except for Dave, no matter whether he looks strong or weak in character, the selfish face is the same.
If there is anything about kindness in this story, it is Dave. He killed a pedophile in his eyes, which required a lot of courage. Although he was trembling with fright.
When he learned that Jimmy's daughter was killed, he said that "this matter is more important" and "restarted friendship." He is nostalgic for friendship. Just like he mentioned to his son that the sewer on the side of the road had more than a thousand balls (proof of the friendship between the three). The director may want to be wary of sentient beings. As a sufferer, he should self-reflection and self-improvement without being trapped in past experiences. Be friends and relatives, not like the people in the play (Jimmy, Sean, Dai's wife, Ji's wife, Xiao Lei).
