A few days ago, I accidentally saw a self-media doing a quick reading of this movie, and only then did I know that the sequel to the original "The Shining" had been filmed. I found resources yesterday, and while I was having dinner, I watched it with Yuanyuan. The plot of the movie is completely followed by "The Shining", and the plot promotion is inextricably linked with the previous work. But unlike The Shining's "low-magic" setting, the mystical elements of the story in this film are more specific. The "Shining" ability in this film is more like the super ability of Little Eleven in "Stranger Things". Correspondingly, there are also some action scenes in the film. Added some excitement to the two-hour-plus movie.
It may be that the image quality of the resource is not clear enough, and I didn't find a very impressive shot after watching the whole film (the last tribute part does not count as a brush with feelings). There are a few scenes that obviously feel like a lot of work, but they always feel very contrived (see the part where the devil's soul is out of the body looking for the little girl). The process of watching the movie is very dramatic. The figurative ghosts and ghosts always remind me of the Hong Kong ghost movies in the 1980s and 1990s. With this very modern picture, I can't help laughing.
When I watched it, I felt that the style of this film (photography, color, dialogue, etc.) was very similar to last year's Netflix horror drama "Ghost Invasion". Later, I found out that the director is really the same person? Thinking about it this way, the turning point of the final plot of the film, as well as the setting of the Vision Hotel and the handling of Hill's Haunted House are really the same. I don't watch horror movies, so I don't know if this is the golden rule for haunted house movies. Similarly, the ending of this film and Ghost Invasion both felt dull to me. In contrast, the ending of "The Shining" is relatively open: there are still people discussing why the male protagonist Jack appeared in an old photo in 1921.
Although this film is a sequel to The Shining, the connection between the two works is limited to the plot. The biggest imprint of "Doctor Sleep" is bestowed by this era. The new wine in the old bottle, the disappointment than the surprise after the character who came here, only felt that this good bottle was wasted.
