I think i hate you

The final chapter of this series of new trilogy "The Rise of Skywalker" was screened on December 18. As a big fan of the movie, of course I chose to sacrifice dinner and go to watch it.

Perhaps it was the hunger that affected my mood. After sitting in the cinema for 142 minutes, I felt infinite emptiness and loss.

George Lucas once said that "Star Wars fans are the ones who hate Star Wars the most." I really don't want to be such a fan, but why? Why can the final chapter of the new epic make me so indifferent?

The following contains a lot of spoilers, You've been warned.

advantage

Let me first finish talking about the satisfying aspects of "The Rise of Skywalker".

First of all, Disney's technology is still the industry leader, and the picture is still beautiful. Especially for the ocean planet where the Death Star fell, the remains of the Death Star stood among the magnificent waves. The picture in this scene perfectly fits my imagination of epic poetry, and has a feeling of Greek mythology.

The style of the Sith Holy Land is gloomy and full of cult temperament. The Sith Throne, which resembles the Iron Throne in "Game of Thrones", stands in the open, like a sword pierced into the center of the earth. Opposite the throne are many Sith viewing seats similar to those in the Parliament in "The Revenge of the Sith", like an ancient Roman theater, where no lines and soundtrack can bring solemnity to the audience.

In addition to the exquisite picture, the soundtrack of John Williams is even more powerful. In "The Rise of Skywalker", there are many re-arrangements of classic Star Wars songs, which not only set off the atmosphere but also satisfy the feelings. Even if you don't like the new trilogy anymore, you won't hate the music of John Williams, especially the gentle string adaptation of "Empire March", which makes you cry.

Speaking of feelings, this is also the better part of "The Rise of Skywalker". The sentiment points are full again, the return of Lando Karrisin and the departure of Princess Leia. At the last moment of the film, Rey heard the voices of a series of Jedi heroes, Anakin, Qui-Gon, Obi King, Yoda , Luke is all back. This scene is just like the twelve doctors in the special chapter of "Doctor Who" have been traveling through time to save the planet.

The so-called monofilament does not form a thread and a lone tree does not form a forest, feelings alone cannot support this final chapter. In the end, the film relied on the acting skills of the new characters. The most important line in the entire new trilogy is Kailoren's road to redemption.

Although the script was not satisfactory, thanks to Adam Dreyfu's superb acting skills, I actually had a little understanding of Kailoren's salvation, as if this father-killing horse-faced boy was not that annoying anymore.

Adam Dreyfu also contributed impressive acting skills in the "Marriage Story" partnered with Scarlett Johansson. I think he may be one of the best actors in Hollywood now in crying scenes.

OK, the advantages are over, then I'm going to fall into the dark side. There are a lot of spoilers below, warn again!

shortcoming

Pulling Emperor Palpatine back as a big boss is simply a failure.

"The Rise of Skywalker" director JJ Abrams said in an interview that they planned to pull the emperor out from the beginning. In my opinion, this is farting! Don't tell me that the emperor has been resurrected in the old orthodox history, we only start with the movie.

As soon as "The Rise of Skywalker" opened, Kyloren went to the planet of the Sith to find Palpatine. Palpatine tells Kyloren that Snooker is his subordinate. Not only that, the emperor actually hoarded a lot of troops and star destroyers on this planet. Palpatine told Kailoren that the First Legion would become the Supreme Legion under his leadership and wipe out the Resistance in one fell swoop.

Why didn't so many star destroyers be dispatched in the first two? Why did Palpatine make the puppet snooker? Is he afraid that Luke Skywalker will come to kill him after seeing him resurrected?

From all angles, I think that "The Rise of Skywalker" will return Palpatine as the BOSS's hasty decision, which is the wreckage after rescuing the plot vacuum left by "The Last Jedi".

As abrupt as Palpatine, a new Nazi-looking general appeared inexplicably in the First Army, replacing the first two generals Hucks who had been bullied enough by Kellore. Why can't General Hex continue to be the evil spokesperson of the First Legion, because he is not bad enough?

Kyloren's swipe of the knife in "The Last Jedi" put the entire new trilogy into a situation where the villain's strength is seriously insufficient. If Disney intends to try a new path in the new trilogy, it should go on firmly. Let Kyloren completely become an ambitionist, let him completely blacken it, let him become a Jedi knight who will never be redeemed, let him become a "Star Wars" Ding Crab!

The swinging Disney not only messed up the logic of the final chapter, but also messed up the depth of Finn's digging. Many domestic movie fans have a deep resentment towards the little black brother Finn. Yes, he is not handsome enough; yes, he is black; yes, he often makes politically correct remarks on racial issues.

But Finn is indeed a character that has never been seen in "Star Wars" before, and I had high hopes for him.

Whether Rey, Luke, or Anakin, the chosen kid in the desert will eventually become a master. We have seen it three times. Whether it’s Han Solo or Podameron, smugglers eventually become generals. We’ve seen it twice.

But have you seen the reformed Storm Infantry?

"The Rise of Skywalker" has repeatedly shown that Finn is extremely sensitive to the Force, and he has always been looking for opportunities to talk to Rey. But until the end of the whole movie, he didn't do anything related to the Force, nor did he speak to Rey.

Why not dig more of the rebellion of the Storm Infantry? Regardless of the storm infantry setting, what is the difference between Finn's role and wave? Does the protagonist team of this new trilogy really need two gag squad leaders? Isn’t it enough to mock C-3PO and Chubaka?

Speaking of Podameron, this character like Han Solo is really boring. Since the new trilogy only belongs to Rey and Kyloren in a sense, Bo has no love element at all in the protagonist team. In order to make up for this, "The Rise of Skywalker" gave Boga a happy enemy character in the smuggling gang in the past, Zoe. From the design point of view, the character of Zoe obviously has to a large extent taken into account the needs of Disney selling peripherals.

Zoe's character is not beautiful, of course it is beautiful. Cool or not, of course it is also cool. But do we really need this role? Will deleting her affect the whole movie? Will it have any impact on Podameron's character behavior?

Not at all! There was no shadow of this character in the first two movies. Of course, you can defend Zoe with the examples of Lando Carrissian or Boba Fett in the old trilogy. Yes, in the old trilogy, Lando and Boba Feite are only supporting roles, there is no bright scene, but fans still like them.

It seems that the three of them are the same, but after careful consideration, they are fundamentally different.

When George Lucas was composing the old trilogy, he never thought about making Boba Fett or Lando a popular character, nor did he think about returning a certain scene to Disney's Star Wars theme park.

But in the new trilogy, such utilitarian ideas are everywhere. In "The Rise of Skywalker", when Rey and his party tracked the signal to a strange planet, it happened that the local Alaaki people were holding a traditional celebration. Of course, C-3PO popped out a lot of information about this celebration.

Do you want to make a bet, the celebration of the Alaaki people will definitely appear in Disney's Star Wars theme park.

In the film narrative, this so-called celebration is simply a repetition. Rey and his party were spotted by the First Legion during the celebration, and then Lando came out to rescue them. These things don’t need a celebration as a background at all, just like setting up a bar and market on the street!

The more obvious layout is that Rey found a small robot called DO in the wreckage of the spacecraft. Presumably, it will become a popular product around Star Wars like BB-8 and Porg.

The number of characters is bloated. Except for Rey and Kailoren, no one can get a full play of even three minutes. Such fragmented expressions cannot establish a sufficiently convincing relationship between any two characters.

What's even more annoying is that the scenes are so inadequate, and the film has to add jokes to scenes that are simply inappropriate. After Rey's team disappeared, Princess Leia still joked with her men Xianxin! This laugh is very inappropriate, but why doesn't JJ Abrams take her?

Probably because this was the few remaining fragments before Kelly Fisher died, they really didn't dare to make any claims to delete it. The death of Kelly Fisher added unnecessary variables to "The Rise of Skywalker". Even if I am very dissatisfied with the treatment of Princess Leia, I have to admit that Disney has indeed done its best to maintain the integrity of Princess Leia's role.

The whole story is too complicated, and the plot is always in a state of uncertainty. The audience is like Rey's team, from point A to point B, and then from point B to point C, they have been chasing the elusive hope.

I hope the movie can give you a little excitement.

The action scene in this movie is so boring, even the lightsaber duel between Kyloren and Rey is so boring. The storm infantry's marksmanship is still poor, and the mediocre mirroring and editing can't make the battle exciting. Especially when I saw Rey’s overpowering force in the second act, what could surprise people?

In the trailer, Rey, who was heavily rendered, singled out Kyloren, which was very shocking in terms of the scene. It's a pity that it happened in the second act. Would the audience worry about Rey or Kyloren at all?

For many fans, the official recognition of Reylo in this movie may be the biggest bright spot for CP.

But I have never had any good feelings about Keroren and Rey for CP, and I don't even think there is any spark between them. I am puzzled by the popularity of Reylo's CP in North America. If you eat this pair of CPs, please tell me why you think there is a play between them.

At the end of the movie, there is an embarrassing "ambush on all sides" of life and death, which is probably a bonus item in the eyes of CP fans, and a big deduction item for me.

In the final battle of the film, Podameron still sent a distress signal to the entire universe just like in "The Last Jedi". This time the people finally responded to the calls of the heroes, and a vast ocean of people's war appeared over the imperial army.

This passage, which is similar to "Pirate Radio", should have been the most shocking climax. However, "The Rise of Skywalker" lacks a description of the lives of people on other planets in the universe, and does not portray any civilian characters worthy of sympathy or hatred. This is the final reversal that appears to be a bit "universalist".

Having said that, who is going to recite the new trilogy of "Star Wars"?

Going back to what George Lucas said

The people who hate Star Wars most are Star Wars fans.

I partly agree with him.

The prequel trilogy composed by George Lucas's painstaking effort was criticized by fans, which made him sad. He thinks that Star Wars fans don't care about his vision of Star Wars, which is natural.

Now he has sold Star Wars to Disney, and Disney's new trilogy for the future of Star Wars has also been criticized by fans.

Is it because the fans are too cheap?

Yes or no.

What Star Wars fans hate is not Star Wars, but the new Star Wars. Fans will always love the Star Wars they first saw, and they will always hate the new content created to collect money, especially when the new content changes the old content.

Why do I hate "The Last Jedi"? Because it directly shattered and reshaped the image of Luke Skywalker. Why do people hate "The Rise of Skywalker"? Because it made Darth Vader's redemption in "Return of the Jedi" somewhat futile.

Just as loyal fans of "Harry Potter" are dissatisfied with JK Rowling's addition to the universe in "Where are Fantastic Beasts", fans of Jin Yong's novels are dissatisfied with Jin Yong's changes in the new revision. Star Wars fans are also dissatisfied with Lucas or Disney's additions and deletions to "Star Wars".

When a literary work is created and published, in a sense, it no longer belongs to the author alone. This can of course be interpreted as the selfishness of readers or fans, but it is this selfishness that supports the fan community of the entire work.

When Disney uses a purely commercial development perspective to develop IP, it will naturally cause a backlash in community opinions.

The IP "Star Wars" is not very popular in mainland China. There are only about 20 people watching the movie with me in the spot. Next to me is a middle-aged person who is about 40 years old. And Zhi is a fan for years.

When Rey introduced himself at the end of the movie and said "My name is Rey Skywalker", the man beside me whispered "Fart".

For the new trilogy, I think I will always hate it.
