Loyalty and Traitor

To be honest, this "Loyal Traitor" based on a true story is not my cup of tea. But Al Pacino and Johnny Depp's renditions can still make me sit quietly in front of the computer for two hours.

Al Pacino changed his image and played a very tragic person in this film, a little mafia. Such a character is destined to be the flaw in his character that he is not suitable for being a leader. He is soft-hearted, chattering, and not cruel enough, but it is such a character that makes Tony (Johnny Depp), who sneaks into the mafia to be an undercover agent, and Lefty (Al Pacino) developed an indescribable deep feeling. It has nothing to do with identity or status, it has nothing to do with faith and conscience.

One of the episodes I will never forget. When Tony came to lefty's house for Christmas, lefty's son became addicted to drugs and wanted to go out to take drugs. Lefty raised his head and glanced at his son. It was this sight that gave me a chilling feeling. This is life, and the helpless sadness is all integrated into this look up.

The real story is cruel, the film has been suppressed, the real life is always more embarrassing than the film.

I really like the two leading actors in the movie, especially Johnny Depp. Johnny has a natural melancholy temperament, he is always confused and depressed, I think it should be his own characteristics, not the film requirements. But it is because of this temperament that it is very suitable for him to play undercover Tony. Because Tony himself is a person who is full of contradictions and confusion and can't get rid of it. He has a belief baseline of "I am not like them, I am them". For him, what he has to shoulder is not only the task of the FBI, but also the responsibility and conscience of his guarantor lefty. Because of this, whether he is in the mafia or not, he must be a loyal man, not a traitor.

There is no bright spot in the ending, it is progressing smoothly, but lefty's final farewell is really sad.

Donnie Brasco quotes

  • Lefty: [sees the front page of a newspaper documenting another crime boss was murdered, to Donnie while in his car] I never hear from my boss until he dies, then my whole life gets turned upside down!

  • Donnie Brasco: [to Maggie in their garage] If I come out alive, this guy, Lefty, ends up dead. That's the same thing as me putting the bullet in his head myself.
