Million Voices

"Rwanda Hotel" won three nominations for Best Actor, Best Supporting Actress, and Best Original Screenplay at the 77th Oscar. But I think the subject matter is heavy, so I haven't read it before.

Today I downloaded this film because I saw information about the massacre in Rwanda on a blog. Although the film did not emphasize the scene of the massacre, it still feels heavy.

The massacre of one million people that could be prevented by thousands of peacekeepers was forgotten by Western countries. This has become the greatest shame since the founding of the United Nations. Eliminating ethnic conflict is indeed an extremely difficult political problem.

The ending song "Million Voices" has a good voice for children, and millions of voices may represent those dead voices. The

Hotel Rwanda quotes

  • Paul Rusesabagina: I am glad that you have shot this footage and that the world will see it. It is the only way we have a chance that people might intervene.

Jack: Yeah and if no one intervenes, is it still a good thing to show?

Paul Rusesabagina: How can they not intervene when they witness such atrocities?

Jack: I think if people see this footage they'll say, "oh my God that's horrible," and then go on eating their dinners.

    [pause]

Jack: What the hell do I know?

  • Colonel Oliver: [explaining why the world will not intervene] You're black. You're not even a nigger. You're an African.
