Magritte is right

The famous philosopher Magritte said that one can live an immoral but ethical life. Magritte’s "ethics" refers to the relationship with those close to him, while "morality" refers to the relationship with strangers. The Chinese believe that "those who want to govern their country must first gather their families." This means that if you can take good care of your family, you are qualified to be other people's parents. This is wrongly inferring a person's moral behavior in society from his behavior in the family. Magritte disagrees with this view, because public morality is not a simple analogy of family ethics. A person who loves his family and those close to him (including lovers, secretaries, cronies, etc.) does not necessarily love society. Those who just love their family members are more likely to commit crimes that endanger the public with recklessness. Andrew Niccol used a story to prove that Magritte was right.

Yuri Orlov: [Narrating] I was so caught up in the deal, I never realized what was going on in Vitaly's head. Come to think about it, maybe I never really understood what was going on inside his head. One thing I do understand for certain is that Vitaly broke the cardinal rule of gun running: never pick up a gun and join the customers. Only half the guns and ammunition was gone so I was still entitled to half the diamonds ,if I took them I was lost, if I left them I was still lost. The massacre played out exactly how Vitaly predicted but then half a dozen massacres happened Sierra Leone that week you can't stop them all, in my experience you can't stop any of them
