The best part of the script is that it tells the story of life's joys and sorrows in seven days, cleverly uses wine as a metaphor, and tells it in a gentle manner without being pretentious. The story has a lot of jokes in many details, which makes people laugh happily and naturally, but the aftertaste is endless.
First of all, there are two categories of people, one who loves wine, and the other who just use wine as a decoration of life. Among those who love wine, there are differences.
Miles' favorite wine is Pinot. Because Pinot is very sensitive and difficult to grow, it needs special care. Miles loves Pinot because of these special cares.
His outlook on life is similar. In his opinion, life is a very heavy thing, and being careful will be precarious. The more he takes care of him, the more he expects, and the more he loses.
Like the 61-year-old wine, he wanted to drink it on the tenth wedding anniversary, a perfect day. But his marriage could not wait until that day.
Everything in his life was like that, and he was nowhere near the perfection he had hoped for.
Maya gave him an answer. What Maya loves is the wine process. She loves those careful care, she loves the fragrance of the wine, but she also admits that wine has a peak period, and the wine will get old.
Letting go of the pursuit of perfection and enjoying her at her best is the answer Miles needs.
I don't like the ending of this movie. I'd have Miles darken the screen while sneaking his bottle of '61 in a fast food restaurant.
Favorite shot is (sorry, no DVD player software, can't take screenshots), after Miles and Maya talk about Wines of life, Miles goes to the toilet, then walks out, in the orange-lit aisle, drying himself tears, and walked into the white-lit kitchen, where he kissed Maya. The camera stays in the hallway where the orange light starts, looking at the two men through the door frame. This shot is very evocative, and different people can have different interpretations. I like the language of films like this.
IMDB score of 7.9 (36,846 votes) and I give it an 8.
