I watch Angel-A

Shooting black-and-white films in the age of color must have had a different meaning. Like Steven Spielberg's "Schindler's List," the monotonous black and white accentuates the realism of history and the seriousness and heaviness of the film's subject matter. And "Angel-A", a movie full of fantasy and love as the main line, the black and white highlights the absurd and unreal. Andre, a petite little man, and Angela, a tall and beautiful woman. He was destitute and unable to accomplish anything, and she poured out the boundless power of all beings. But she had to protect him and guide him to help him until she finally fell in love with him. Not to mention that this kind of plot and the love without transition are somewhat realistic, just look at her figure that is obviously a head taller than him and a circle bigger than him whenever Angela hugs Andrei. The face is funny. It is precisely this mismatch of characters and the conflict between tone and plot that arouses the audience's thinking and highlights the theme of the film. "Behind every successful man there is a woman", not necessarily. But every man has a goddess in his heart, which is almost certain. "Angel-A" is a fairy tale for urban men in this era, because it deduces almost all the fantasies of an urban man.
My feeling is that Luc Besson may not be a master, but his work is more than "postcard movies" as "Cinemabook" calls it. Luc Besson is a master at least. He used this fairy tale to make a profound reflection on the relationship between the sexes in this era. The patriarchal society in the human world for thousands of years has created a social consciousness of male supremacy. Although with the change of society, women no longer need to depend on men, the patriarchal society is gone forever. But the lag of ideological change has brought embarrassment to men in modern society. The dominant consciousness of the society determines the social roles of both sexes. Men have to maintain their dominant position and strong dignity, even if they are unable to do so; and women no longer suppress their own strength and desires, just as Angela said, "Angel" There will be lusts too, and they've been held in for too long." While the reality has changed, no one is willing to admit it yet. And the emergence of strong women is as unstoppable as the pace of history. So now the whole world is showing a state of "yin rises and yang falls" - I always thought it was a Chinese characteristic before watching this movie (the word "yin rises and yang falls" itself is imprinted with a deep sense of patriarchy ). Perhaps radical change requires a process, although sometimes the process is lengthy. "Angel A" reveals everything to us with just two contrasting male and female characters.
What I have to admire is that Luc Besson accurately interprets the delicate relationship between men's psychology and men and women in modern society. However, because of gender restrictions, his interpretation can only be from a male perspective. So in the film Angela said to Andre: I am you. Then guide Andre to say "I love you, Angela" to the mirror before transitioning to saying "I love you, Andre" to yourself. To say he loves her, it is better to say that he needs love. And at the end of the film, the angel finally fell in love with the mortal. When she grew wings to fly back to heaven, he held her back, and the two struggled and fell into the Seine. Many consider it a classic love scene with a happy ending. But I didn't feel moved when I saw the sudden love that had no reason. Maybe the director just wanted to tell everyone that even a high-level, angel-level woman has to choose the destined man to love in the end. No matter how ordinary he is, she can only stay with him in the world. this is the truth. When I wrote this, I suddenly remembered the words of Zhuangzi: "It is better to forget each other in the rivers and lakes". Perhaps the most profound negative commentary on the film. The great wisdom of the ancients thousands of years ago was beyond the reach of even Luc Besson.
So in the end it's a male movie.
