Little people's life posture

Life is just countless gestures. Love, hate and hatred, gathering and sinking, separation and reunion of joys and sorrows, etc. are all listed among them. Some are up, some are down, some are struggling desperately, and some are just going. But when all of these fall apart, and from the establishment to the process of extinction, if the pressure given is too much to bear the weight of life, the people in it may return to the state where everything was just like the first sight. Just like in the mother's womb, curling up helplessly and fragilely into the shape of a bow is an effective posture to soothe oneself. I can also feel the temperature of some fictional but subjective existence.

But at the same time, the leaked secret is not just a lack of security.

Perhaps the multiple montage methods used in the film are just to express a confused theme: high-speed cutting, partial magnification, special perspective processing of the lens, and so on. And where is the front going to lead the people in it?

Clue 1: TV.
Harry's mother Sara is a TV fan, and this identity reflects her background: an uneducated, lonely elderly woman, deeply eager for the care and company of her family, and the difficulty of dieting and losing weight-watching TV is a sex person, Especially women, always like to put some snacks at hand. And when Harry and his friends drag the old TV through the streets in the opening movie, it indicates the importance of TV in the movie.

At the same time, all plot developments are related to television. Sara decided to lose weight because she received a photogenic invitation from a TV show she watched frequently, so that she could wear the red dress praised by her late husband when she attended the graduation ceremony of her son's high school. The whole story also spread out from this.

Clue two: original sound.
As Harry and his friends walked across the street with a shabby TV, the theme music repeated many times in the film was also played. From light to heavy, from slow to urgent. When there were many plot turns in the film, Harry's drug business was frustrated, exiled, Sara had hallucinations, and went to psychiatric treatment with the same ghostly music. It seems, heralding the coming trajectory of the four protagonists.

Clue 3: Color.
Sara’s favorite is the most beautiful red. Her hair is also the dazzling red, but it backfired. The neighbor did her DIY hair dye at home but turned it into orange. The deviation is only a little bit, but it seems a bit funny and weird. . The perfect image of Marylin in Harry's dream is also a short red dress, perhaps because of his nostalgia for the image of his mother in high school, or just to show the unspeakable love for Sara. But I have to say that Jennifer Connelly is really suitable for smoky makeup and black-based clothing, which is quite consistent with her own temperament, and I have always had the impression of JC playing such a hard-for-life role. See Her black hair and thick black eyebrows couldn't help but turn her thoughts into gothic. At the same time, lover Harry also has heavy black hair, and I believe Aronofsky has also worked hard in casting.

Clue 3: Seasons change.
I don’t know if there is the same proverb in English: winter is over, can spring be far behind? But this time Aronofsky played a major subversion. The film began to see hope in the summer, the pain intensified in the autumn, and the intensified in the winter until the unbearable last twenty minutes, but never saw the unbearable spring.

Clue 4: Bed and curl up, sleep peacefully (perhaps...)
At the end, the four protagonists are lying on the left side after being physically and mentally devastated, curled up into the shape of a bow. Hugging yourself tightly, you can feel such a vain warmth.

…I

prefer the translated name of "Requiem of Dreams". What it reveals is the taste of hope when I am confused. Even if the whole film shows complete darkness, even if Sara enters the psychiatric department, she will definitely not be able to go to the mirror again. Holding a lifelong regret, even if Harry went to the hospital to treat a drug-addicted arm and was arrested and amputated, even if Tylon was also in jail for hard work, even if Marilyn was forced by the situation to be tortured at the drug dealer’s party and exchanged for some necessary Money... But I see that they still miss each other, even after all this, they still love each other.

It's just that it lacks a clear expression outlet. But life is not over yet, and spring will still come after winter. This is a natural law that cannot be violated, just like family affection that does not diminish water, friendship that supports each other, and love that understands each other. So even when I see the U.S. underground commentary that the film has some anti-social and reflects the current social problems such as the gap between the rich and the poor. The performance is too sharp (regardless of its political factors, there may also be reasons for not winning.) , I still want to believe that what Aronofsky still holds is the warmth of human nature and all kinds of feelings. These are irreplaceable things.

Perhaps Harry made a lot of money to make his mother's life safer than his wish, perhaps Tylon was unable to make up for some of the shortcomings because of his mother's death, perhaps Marylin's drug addiction would eventually erupt, or Sara would never recover. However, it is good to be able to support each other on the life trajectory of little people. In my opinion, the really cold-blooded movies are things that cause mutual suspicion due to the external environment, and tortured each other to the point where the feelings cease.
