In 1916, in France during the First World War, the war between the German and French armies was in full swing. At this critical moment, the French Army General Blollard issued an order to the troops led by Captain Dax: to take the German-occupied Ante Mountains at all costs.

The military orders are like mountains, and even if there are mountains of swords and fires ahead, the soldiers still rush forward desperately. The ending can be imagined. Under the intensive fire of the enemy, the French army failed to charge and suffered heavy casualties. In order to cover up his command error, Brollard arrested three innocent soldiers as scapegoats and sentenced them to death for crimes such as escaping.

Captain Dax fought hard for the interests of his soldiers, but in the process he gradually saw the ugliness of officers and war...

Based on Humphrey Kirby's 1935 novel "Paths of Glory", the film won the Silver Belt Award for Best Foreign Language Film Director in 1959 and the Finnish Academy Award for Best Director in 1958.

Path of Glory is a 1957 film directed by Stanley Kubrick. The whole film shot the absurdity of the war in a compact and neat way, and made a strong satire on France, which advocates "freedom, equality, and fraternity". Kirk Douglas, who played Dax, did a great job. This is Kubrick's first masterpiece.

The film is based on Humphrey Kirby's 1935 novel "Paths of Glory." Kubrick was only 14 years old when he first read the novel, but he was already fascinated by it. The novel "The Path of Glory" was adapted by the author based on real events that took place in the French army during the First World War. Five conscripts were mistaken for mutiny and executed. A few years later, the soldier's family filed a complaint with the army and won the case. But only received two francs in damages.

【Two or three things about the master】

Stanley Kubrick

(July 26, 1928 to March 7, 1999)

famous american film director

Died four days after finishing his last work, Eyes Wide Shut

Representative works: "Dr. Strangelove", "A Clockwork Orange", "The Shining", "Path of Glory", etc.

1. Kubrick got a camera from his father for his 13th birthday. He put the camera in a paper bag with a hole dug out and took pictures of pedestrians on the street, most of which were taken from a low angle, which influenced his film style.

2. Kubrick is a chess master who often uses chess in his movies.

3. Kubrick loved animals so much that he did not allow gardeners to drug his garden to catch moles. Animal blood is also not allowed to be used for film sets.

4. Kubrick is very keen on film collecting, including high-quality videotapes of his own films.

5. Kubrick communicated with his colleagues in the same old ways: telephone, fax and e-mail.

6. A perfectionist, Kubrick has edited at least two of his released films, Space Odyssey: 2001 and The Shining.

7. After a series of cases similar to the storyline of the film "A Clockwork Orange", "A Clockwork Orange" was banned in the UK, and the ban has not been lifted.

8. Kubrick paid attention to every aspect of the shoot. He has very strict requirements on every technical detail, from lighting and camera to set and makeup. However, the consequence of this is that the shooting schedule is often not completed on time, and the shooting time often increases exponentially.

9. The actors were the only part of the entire crew that Kubrick didn't put pressure on. Kubrick gave the actors very little direction and left the rest to them. He once said, "75% of the director's work is done by the actors."
