This is a movie based on a true story, with the legendary shemale boxing champion. The protagonist Dong has a sexual psychology since childhood, hates violence, and longs to become a beautiful woman surrounded by flowers and accompanied by beauty. But the absurd joke played by fate not only made him clear his daughter's heart, but also sent him to the most bloody, fierce, masculine and sweaty Muay Thai arena in the fighting world. Fortunately, fate also gave him the heart of a warrior who is not at the mercy of being manipulated and has the courage to resist and change fate.
The efforts to survive and the determination to change his fate made him fight with his life in the most violent arena world, and finally became a legendary Muay Thai boxing champion of a generation, bid farewell to the unfortunate poverty and realized a beautiful dream---becoming a woman.
Of course, I found this disc with the motive of appreciating the art of Muay Thai and enjoying the superb boxing skills like "Seeking Buddha". But just a few minutes into the film, the beauty and art of the film itself made me feel that this is an extraordinary, high-level art film.
The protagonist Dong's appearance is a woman who has been transgendered, with a dreamlike figure, even after experiencing a series of standard and superb Muay Thai street fights at the beginning, she still maintains her usual calm and long hair.
What follows is a flashback of his oral experience to reporters: how he was born with aversion to violence, longed to be a beautiful woman, and couldn't help himself, in order to live and pay his parents' debts, he stepped on the ring by accident, and he was full of ridicule and sarcasm with his talent. In the rainstorm, swept the ring with a more violent fist and foot storm, and finally realized the dream in my heart.
The story itself is not complicated. It is surprising to see the real master's handwriting in the entertainment theme of rural Thailand. I have never seen such a concise and clear way of expressing each link without being too cumbersome and meaningful, nor have I ever seen such a green, misty jungle world, a clear and delicate, accurate angle of view of arena fighting, And such a far-reaching, soul-stirring movie mood. The usual vulgar montage and other movie techniques, only in this film can I really have a profound and intuitive understanding. As a layman, I can clearly feel that this is not a gossip woman and a nagging monk, but really expresses the connotation through film art.
The rhythm, like most movies in Asia, is slightly soothing, but this is a kind of expressive and connotative charm, just like the pictures of ladies in ancient times, quiet, beautiful, not annoying, but intriguing. At the same time, the rhythm and picture can only be described by one word: clean. I have never seen such a neat and creative way of expression, making every simple plot look delicate and interesting. There are concise rhythms lost in the West and melodic charm of the East, without the superficial and cumbersome vices of both sides. To put it simply, it is a classic movie that can become a textbook. Every sigh is full of life, and every screenshot can become a classic postcard. Especially for the protagonist's woman's psychology, man's body, the ambivalence and life background of longing for beauty and forced violence, as well as the delicate and detailed description of the psychology of realizing her dream at all costs, this shemale boxing champion is full of details. A very beautiful temperament that makes people understand and appreciate. Especially the kind that the whole film exudes, which closely matches the personal background of the protagonist, and is destined to be lonely on the road of self-realization, like the gently pulsing drum sound from the deep mountains on a full moon night, sad and melodious.
But obviously, this is not a boxing movie made by a martial artist. The understanding and performance of fighting art in it can only be regarded as second-rate, but it is a work that truly has the temperament of a movie master. If it were produced in Hollywood, I would have easily accepted this skillful and beautiful approach. But it is produced in Thailand, which is poor and backward in our impression, which is eye-opening, and it is easy to think of us as Director Zhang, who likes to play dizzying photography, and a direct voice in my heart is: " Playing film art, let’s learn from others for another ten years.”
"It's not easy to be a man, and it's not easy to be a woman, but the problem is, you have to know what you want to be." This is Dong Zai's answer to "Is it difficult to be a man or a woman" at the end. This inspiring answer elevates this entertaining film to an artistic height that inspires thought, perfect and heartfelt appreciation. When the beautiful champion finally lifts that totally feminine face, he and the movie itself are dazzlingly stunning.
