Martin once again interprets the archetype as a drugged bastard. Hughes is like a lifelong patient with secondary disease. He does not have the rational thinking that a science genius should have, nor the abandonment and persistence that a business person should have. Martin seems to think that as long as the protagonist is like a freak that everyone is drunk and I am alone, in times of difficulty, he waved his hand and said let us bet everything. Then everything was fine, and any difficulties passed. Yes, geniuses are paranoid, but God will not accommodate him just because he is a genius.
