different story

When I read "The Daughter of the Sea" when I was a child, I was always moved by the infatuation and kindness of the Little Mermaid. Her love was silently giving, and her love was not asking for anything in return. Just because he looked at the prince one more time in the sea, he never forgot his face again. After that, it was always because of the restless love in the young heart. But in the end, the little mermaid did not stay with the prince, but was willing to die for the prince, but the prince did not feel her love. This is a poignant story, a tragedy, and tragedy is to destroy beautiful things for others to see. And now, I see the happy ending that belongs to the Little Mermaid as I hoped to see as a child. I believe there are two plots and endings of this story. Because in the parallel world, the same kind-hearted little mermaid and the same careless prince lived. They lived a similar life. Because they encountered different things and made different choices, they became different stories.

Andersen's original work is a good story, and the selflessness and willingness in love are deeply described, but Disney's adaptation has cut down the tragic color of the original work very seriously in order to run through its consistent happy family ending. A lot of gags are funny, and the key love scenes take up too little time in the film. The discussion of the father-daughter relationship is an innovative point, but the handling is a bit sloppy.

The Little Mermaid quotes

  • Scuttle: Well, look at what the catfish dragged in!

    [laughs]

Scuttle: Look at ya! Look at ya! There's something different. Don't tell me. I got it. It's your hairdo, right? You've been using the dinglehopper, right?

    [Ariel shakes her head]

Scuttle: No? No, huh? Well, let me see. New seashells? No new seashells. I gotta admit, I can't put my foot on it right now, but if I just stand here long enough, I should...

Sebastian: She's got legs, you idiot! She traded her voice to the sea witch and got legs! Geez, mon!

    Scuttle: I knew that.

Flounder: Ariel's been turned into a human. She'll have to make the prince fall in love with her, and he's gotta he's gotta kiss her.

Sebastian: And she's only got three days!

  • Louis: [singing] Les Poissons, Les Poissons / How I love Les Poissons / Love to chop and to serve little fish / First I cut off their heads, then I pull out their bones / Ah, mais oui ça c'est toujours delish / Les poissons, les poissons, Hee-hee-hee, ho-ho-ho! / With the cleaver I hack them in two / I pull out what's inside, and I serve it up fried / 'Cause I love little fishes, don't you? / Here's something for tempting the palate / Prepared in the classic technique / First you pound the fish flat with the mallet / Then you slash through the skin, give the belly a slice / Then you rub some salt in, 'cause that makes it taste nice!

    [Sees Sebastian]

Louis: Zut alors! I have missed one.

    [Picks him up]

Louis: Sacrebleu! What is this? / How on earth could I miss / Such a sweet, little succulent crab / Quel dommage, what a loss! / Here we go, in the sauce / Now some flour, I think just a dab / Now I'll stuff you with bread! / It don't hurt, 'cause you're dead / And you're certainly lucky you are / 'Cause it's gonna be hot in my big silver pot / Toodle-oo, mon poisson, au revoir!
