"Chain Saw" is a classic horror film directed by Chinese director James Wen (Wen Ziren). As Wen Ziren’s film debut, this film does not appear to be young at all. He tells this completely and maturely. Horror story: Two men are locked in a room and the only way to survive is to kill each other. The film's narrative processing is very delicate, using a lot of montage. While narrating the main storyline, it also uses montage to add other stories, such as the two protagonists recalling what they have done, etc. This kind of narrative method is very big for this escape room horror movie The rich function makes the story not boring, avoids straightforward narration, and makes the connection of clues clearer. More importantly: the movie is for the audience, and the role of the audience in this film is the person who is in the same unknown perspective as the protagonist, so that the audience can feel the story and plot more immersively. There is another bright spot in the film's narrative. Because it is a film that relies on the story to win, it handles the plot reversal quite well. The audience and the protagonist are in the same unknown perspective is the basis for the reversal, and then the director needs to prepare step by step before the truth arrives, so that the audience and the characters "go astray", such as: Zap's appearance, Zap abducts the protagonist's wife and daughter plot , There are also the plots of two policemen desperately arresting real criminals. The settings of these plots are good for the audience to think that the murderer is so and so and so and so and so and lay the foundation for the reversal of the final ending. (But the police's combat effectiveness is too weak...Is the law of death for blacks...). But this film is awesome. The director used the last five minutes or so to fill in all the "pits" and set an ending that surprised the audience. The murderer is not anyone but the one lying. The person in the room who was assumed by the protagonist to be a corpse... that was a cancer patient... the last five minutes not only surprised and unexpected the audience, but also made all the previous preparations work, such as the connection between John and the doctor. And the jigsaw likes to observe and feel the details of his prey at close range, which makes the audience and the protagonist deeply feel this feeling of deep thinking and fear. As a crime film, it also rounds out the murderer’s criminal motives, and at the same time promotes the expression of the final theme: from a cancer patient’s cherishment of life... It even has a sense of inspiration...
