drama in history

When I took a second look at this 2008 old film, aside from being addicted to Tom and the handsome looks of many German military uniforms, I can still objectively say that this film is a German justice film made by Americans, and it has more than a legend. And history is not enough. But frankly speaking, it is not advisable to find history in movies. The film portrays Stauffenberg's brave, fearless, decisive and persevering image in a very straightforward manner, ignoring his blind and optimistic side to some extent, and weakening the reality that his team has their own needs. There are two scenes that I will watch repeatedly throughout the film. One is that Stauffenberg is dragging his broken self, but he is still awarding medals to the same broken soldiers in the ward. This paragraph brings the justice atmosphere of the whole film to a natural level. Of course, this section is also very touching. The war plunders not only resources, but also countless lives. The other is the one in which he was certain that Hitler was dead and resolutely seized power. His personal courage gradually influenced those "rebels" who had the same desire. This kind of leadership spirit is not common at any stage. . But history is history after all, there is no true and false good and evil. The cleansing brought about by this assassination can be said to be the last show of power in the Hitler era.

Valkyrie quotes

  • [first lines]

soldiers in unison: I swear by God this sacred oath: That I shall render unconditional obedience to Adolf Hitler, Fuhrer of the German Reich and people, Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, and that I shall at all times be ready, as a brave soldier, to give my life for this oath.

  • Col. Claus von Stauffenberg: [translation of letter he is writing] The Fuhrer's promises of peace and prosperity have fallen by the wayside leaving in their wake a path of destruction. The outrages committed by Hitler's SS are a stain on the honor of the German Army. There is widespread disgust in the officer corps toward the crimes committed by the Nazis, the murder of civilians, the torture and starvation of prisoners, the mass execution of Jews. My duty as an officer is no longer to save my country, but to save human lives. I cannot find one general in a position to confront Hitler with the courage to do it.
