Finished the movie and read the original novel on the same day.
This story is the same as "Love Story", the plot is relatively simple, it may be more cliché (for the 1980s and 1990s, such a story is still possible). But after I got used to watching Korean dramas like this kind of terminal illness, I felt very ordinary.
Compared with the novel, the plot of the film is more prominent in the dramatic conflict. The male protagonist in the original novel has children from a wealthy family, and he is a little naughty and has no pursuit. When he got here, he became a bad boy. Because he fell in love with the heroine, he found his purpose in life, he knew what love was, and he also knew how to cherish his parents, and his personality was sublimated.
Some viewers were looking forward to the happy and friendly plot at the beginning, but they were disappointed. The two got along very well. Although there was a misunderstanding from the beginning, they lacked the strong conflict between the male and female protagonists in "Pride and Prejudice". However, this is their own style, the screenwriter's needs, and there is no need to force it.
Some people say that because the rehearsal of a drama is very old-fashioned, I think this part, where the heroine sings and two people kiss, is very charming. Although it is said that this kind of plot has no impact on the current audience.
The heroine of the original novel is a devout religious believer. Because of her belief, she is caring, willing to help others and help orphans. In order to support the female protagonist, the male protagonist secretly donated his pocket money. As for the later male protagonist's transformation, it is largely due to the role of the "Bible". The "Bible" is the token of their love. The male protagonist is also inspired by the spirit of it and understands what love is. I don't know if the movie is out of secular considerations, so it almost downplayed this aspect.
Probably because I've watched too many love movies, I don't have much feeling for this one. But the feeling for "Titanic" has always been there. Perhaps, it is because the conflict in this film is not deep enough to shock my soul. That's not to say the film isn't conflict-free, though, otherwise it would be bland.
Like "Love Story", this movie may have been deeply moving in the era of its release (it was a sensation at the time), but after there are many movies of the same type, it seems tired. Many viewers feel the same way, but the fault is not in the movie itself, but because other movies make it seem cliché.
Furthermore, due to the reasons of the times, I am not too fond of the styles of the male protagonists and females. If it is the handsome men and women in Europe and the United States now, it can add a lot of points to this movie.
