It was really driven by all sorts of coincidences that I went to the theater to see this movie. I was amazed when the first picture appeared, the color and light were handled very well, and the long narrative unfolded in this Italian countryside. The whole film is based on the tangled friendship between two men who represent the capital and the proletariat respectively. It runs through more than half a century, and the grand history of class struggle is condensed into more than five hours without feeling long. In the first part, the narrative is concise and lively. The tender feelings of the two boys are not afraid of the class gap and slowly germinate. In the second part, conflicts erupt one by one. The competition in the adult world makes people forget the beauty of the beginning. The coherence and smoothness of the soundtrack, framing, editing, and, of course, the beautiful faces of the leading actors make people unconsciously immerse themselves in them, or the story of an era. The ingenious metaphors and epilogue echoes in the scene where the boys lie on the track are amazing, and the final scene freezes there as if not a full stop but an ellipsis.
