In film appreciation, I have always believed that monologues are only used when the director has no skills and ability, or thinks his audience is an idiot. At the beginning of the play, narration was used to label Vick and Cristina as characters, rather than the plot; whenever there was a need to push the plot twist and development, a monologue was used; the character's inner transformation also used a monologue.
