Although the cast is not as good as the 1992 movie, in all fairness the first three episodes are not bad. After all, the TV series has enough space, so it is laid out more calmly than the movie.
The problem lies in the fourth episode. The ending was messy, and the various lines were not clearly explained. I was eager to end the story, lacked polishing, and maybe the investment was not enough. The ending is very important, and the awkward ending will overwhelm the audience even if they had a good impression before.
As for the plot, whether it is a movie or a TV series, it is loyal to the original. The same plot was nominated for several Oscars and won an award in 1992. So, the difference is not in the plot, but in the way it unfolds.
I read some complaints, mostly about the plot~ I hate the hypocritical contrived characters in it, and I think the plot is ridiculous. To be honest, I don't like this plot either. Foster's novels often have that kind of rambling. But for some reason, such an annoying plot has been adapted by film and television at least three times: the 1970 film, the 1992 film and the 2017 TV series.
