The story takes place on the eve of Christmas in 2004. Maria and her husband Henry brought their three sons to the beautiful seaside of Thailand, ready to spend a happy Christmas here. Unexpectedly, just the day before Christmas, a tsunami struck suddenly. Because there was no warning, the family, like many tourists, was instantly swept away by the huge waves: the seriously injured Maria fled the disaster scene with her 12-year-old eldest son Lucas, but Henry did not know it, and took his two younger sons with him. The Impossible quotes

  • Henry Bennett: Did you set the alarm before we left?

Maria Bennett: Yeah, it was the last thing I did.

Henry Bennett: No, I was the last one to leave. I was the last one to leave, and I'm sure I didn't set it.

Maria Bennett: No darling, I was the last one out, and I did. I promise.

    Henry Bennett: You sure?

    Maria Bennett: Yup.

    Henry Bennett: K.

Henry Bennett: [after a long pause] No, no, I was the last one, 'cause I went back in, and that means the alarm is not set, 'cause I didn't set it.

Henry Bennett: What, just like your old college days?

    [sobbing]

Maria Bennett: [Equally shaken, moves closer to embrace Lucas] Shhh...!

    [whispers into his ear]

    Maria Bennett: I'm scared, too...!

Lucas Bennett: [Anxious] Is it over...?

    [Maria is looking around]

    Lucas Bennett: Is it over...?

Maria Bennett: [Looks around nervously as the wave recedes] I don't know...! I don't know...!
