China's first ghost film is also "Ghost"

It is worthy of being the first ghost movie in China! I watched it when I was very young, and I only remember the horror of the elevator and the corridor, the great acting skills of the big-eyed girl Li Xinjie, and I forgot about everything else.

Rewatching this time is equivalent to re-acquainting with a good film. I finally remembered why I didn't remember the plot, because I was very resistant to Thailand and Thai language at that time, and the visual and auditory senses were very poor. In the child's cognition, I feel that Thailand and Vietnam are similar, the language is ugly, and there are refugees with yellow faces and thin muscles and malnutrition everywhere. Re-reading it now, I find that this is the familiar Tai-fear at all: cause and effect, reincarnation, letting go. The producer of "Damn" is Chen Kexin. In fact, Brother Peng, like Chen Kexin, is a Hong Konger + Taihua. He grew up studying in Thailand and is fluent in Thai, you understand.

After the Asian financial crisis in 1997, Chen Kexin disbanded the UFO Film Company and went to Hollywood to shoot "Love Letter", but the box office and word of mouth of the film were not satisfactory. After returning to Hong Kong, Chen Kexin, Chen Desen, Feng Yiqing and others co-founded Applause Film Production Company, and put their investment vision on Asian local films, especially art film directors with business acumen, among which the newly emerging Thailand, South Korea, Japan, etc. are the main ones. "Spring Die" directed by Xu Qinhao is his representative work (joint investment with South Korea's Sidus Pictures and Japan's Shochiku Films), and has won a good reputation. Later, the Thai erotic movie "Lady" was produced, which also achieved box-office success. But what really caught the company's attention was the co-production of "Ghost" in Hong Kong, Singapore and Thailand, as well as the subsequent three-stage horror films "Three Watches" and "Three Watches 2" series, focusing on Jin Zhiyun, Chen Kexin, Chen Guo , Takashi Miike, Lance Bimei and other well-known directors.

After Chen Kexin went north to film "If Love" in 2005, he specialized in the mainland market and gave up the previous "Pan-Asian route". But the Peng brothers persevered, and insisted on adding Thai locations and Thai elements to the film until the last major production so far, "Escape from Life". Without him, because Peng is familiar with Thailand and because of the strong religious and mysterious atmosphere in Thailand, it is a natural horror movie thriller scene.

An excellent horror film must have a complete world view and perfect logic, and must have a beauty with degree of relaxation and horror acting skills. These are fully reflected in "Ghost". As far as this film is concerned, it can fully act as a textbook of Chinese horror film genres.

Li Xinjie was originally blind, but after being blind for more than 20 years, she was used to it. Modern medicine has allowed her to regain her sight by obtaining the cornea of the dead, but it has brought an addition: hell. Seeing ghosts frequently made Li Xinjie so depressed that she simply shut herself off. The doctor's boyfriend had no choice but to use his private rights to obtain the deceased's information. It turned out to be a Thai girl.

The ability to "see hell and predict death" comes from Taimei's cornea. So Li Xinjie went to Thailand with her doctor boyfriend to trace the origin.

Poor Thai girl, because of this ability, was regarded as a freak by the villagers, rejected and insulted, her fate. The last time, she "saw" that all the villagers were about to be burned to death. She was as kind as she went from house to house and told her to evacuate, but she was still rejected by everyone. So the whole village died irreparably in the fire. The tragedy devastated the Thai sisters and witnessed all the Thai sisters hang themselves under the pressure. But the mother who loves her daughter can't forgive her daughter's suicide. This makes the souls of the dead who committed suicide and sins even more unable to live in peace. The same kind-hearted Li Xinjie had no choice but to show her mother the "Hanging the Dead" live broadcast, just to hear her mother's forgiveness before resting in peace.

The souls of the dead rest in peace, and the two want to return. Traffic jam on the road. At this time, Li Xinjie saw the scene again: the ghosts. That is, predicting the death of passersby. The scene of Taimei's death was staged strangely again... Isn't this the most familiar Thai terror element: cause and effect, reincarnation, let go, and rest in peace!

The film is good because the completion is excellent, and every character and every line is perfectly closed! It is a pity that the environment of Chinese horror films is too bad, and the market does not allow "going to hell", and the Peng brothers are short-lived and weak. Ghost films such as Peng's "Ghost" 23 and "Ghost Domain" are also good, and the most classic is the earliest "Ghost"!
