magnanimity is the escape route to heaven

The movie makes people yearn for the dawn all the time, hoping that it is like opening a hole from the dark space, and at the end of the play, a light is shot, Escape to the paradise

"Oh, Charlie~"

Callidor is a legend in the underworld, a tough guy, a hero, as the saying goes, "righteousness". This allowed him to quickly "get back on the road" after five years in prison. Such a big drug lord, such a person who kills with precision and ruthlessness, such a person who is all-powerful on the road of gangsters, in his worldview, "righteousness" ranks first.

At first, I thought Calido was complicated and contradictory. At the beginning of the film, in the pardon court, his almost frenzied and confident statement, confused thinking, and excitement of being free overflow the screen. Prison life doesn't teach people to be kind, and it doesn't make people rehabilitate. It only erases people's spirit and drains their spirit. Kalido, who has been in prison for five years, is no longer the person he used to be. He seems to be missing something. After he came out, he just wanted to escape. The only thought was that he would never go to the dungeon again.

Kalido, who was released from prison, can easily regain various "job opportunities" and return to being his own drug lord on the road. But he declared that he was retired and would never do it again, that he was a clean man, that he was far from sin and prison.

Love Owl and Woman

The cast is really well chosen, Kyle, who is beautiful and just right, and a woman who doesn't even dance in striptease. Two very pure and pure prodigal sons reunited after being separated for 5 years. Kalido suppressed his inner excitement and guilt, like looking at his beloved china, afraid of accidentally breaking Kyle. The hand stretched out between the cracks, and the desire and sadness that penetrated the pupils melted in the silent gaze of the two. Calidor is a real man. Even though he is full of bad deeds and is in sin and turmoil, his heart is like a clear pool of water. He loves a person to the extreme, takes care of a brother and repays it with his life, and owes him a life. Going through fire and water, there is no turning back. . . The love and cherishing of Kyle penetrated his eyes, so pure and clear, Kyle could see it. Even after 5, 10, and 30 years, Kyle can still see it, because in front of the person she loves, there is really no bystander. The so-called heart is the best answer, and fiery is the most practical fall.

why escape to the paradise?

The film begins and ends with an icy ceiling, all the way from survival to death. I think, there is never any escape, you can never escape, you die on the way to heaven. Whether a person lives sloppily and dirty, or dies magnanimously and purely, even this definition is not humane, Just say it to yourself. The complexity of human nature has nothing to do with status, education, wealth, and even this kind of complexity cannot be judged as good or bad. People live for a lifetime, and they may only live in their hearts.

In general, while exposing the complexity and ugliness of human nature, the film has been deeply buried with a kind of kindness and warmth, like the groundwater flowing quietly in a dark city. Maybe you didn’t see any reveal in the film. That's because it is flowing in your heart, neither humble nor arrogant.

This is my first time writing a film review, and it is illogical and unprofessional. I haven't even read other people's film reviews. I hope this record and feedback can help you and me.

Carlito's Way quotes

  • David Kleinfeld: Fuck you and your self-righteous code of the goddamn streets. Did it pull you out of a 30 year stint in only 5 years? No, it didn't, I did. Did it get you acquitted 4 fucking times? No, it didn't, I did, so fuck you, fuck the streets, your whole goddamn world is this big, and there's only one rule, you save your own ass.

  • Carlito: If I ever, I mean if I ever see you here again, you die.

    [Snaps fingers]

    Carlito: Just like that.
