Speaking of director Quentin Tarantino, what label can we think of? Commercial films, bloody violence, foot fetishes, tuberculosis, anti-structural, breakthrough, B-level films, these elements may be liked at the first time, and some may not like them. People who don't like watching more of Quentin's films will slowly fall in love with the director. People who like it will feel a little boring and greasy if they watch more of his films. Therefore, I want to recommend a "Halal" relative to Quentin's other films-"Dangerous Relationship".
The movie still has feet, still has the texture of a B-grade film, and still talks about tuberculosis, but we can't blame Quentin, because of his physical attributes, the biggest concessions and compromises have been made in this movie. The film got rid of the bloody violence and the anti-structure he loved. After watching so many of his films, I can finally breathe a sigh of relief. Quentin finally held his bladder and told the story honestly with extreme restraint.
However, in a sense, "Dangerous Relationship" is also a breakthrough, this time he broke through himself.
Telling stories straightforwardly is not the same as boring. Any story can be turned into magic when placed in the hands of a genius director. The same is true for this movie. There is no complicated routine. It can be summarized in three words, "simple", "crude", and "high-end".
The movie tells of a middle-aged stewardess wandering among three men, finally reaching the pinnacle of her life. Let's take a look at how Quentin chooses among these greasy elements and how to break through.
Talking about tuberculosis, it can't be cut anymore!
The whole movie lasts two and a half hours, and the first one and a half hours are almost ready for orgasm. People who like him will love it very much, and those who don't like him will doze off. I belong to the former, or that sentence, if you don’t like Quentin’s films, watch a few more, you will definitely be fascinated by this man.
What can be imagined is how entangled and difficult to choose Quentin in the previous one and a half hours of editing, and finally how to pat the table and tell the editor that I can't cut it anymore! In any case, after watching it, we all secretly thought that this movie can be roughly compressed into half an hour.
The first half tells the story of the black Odell selling guns, and the flight attendant Jackie who smuggled money for him was accidentally arrested by the police. Jackie used her ingenuity to persuade the police and Odell to cooperate with her. The plot is very simple, and the director is very talkative. Obviously, this is Quentin's characteristic.
Quentin's feet really can't stop
There are four women in the movie, one is the main character of the movie, the flight attendant Jackie, the other is the secondary character Melanie, and the other two women are paving the way for the story of the collaboration, and the camera flashes by. In fact, Melanie's role is also very minor, not much different from the two insignificant women in the play, and was later shot to death by Odell's men during the collaboration. As far as movie stories are concerned, of course many people think so. If you consider Quentin's bad taste, you might not think so.
Take a look at this picture first, and you will know the necessity of Melanie's role.
How can Quentin's movies have no feet? In my opinion, Melanie's so many shots are only set up by Quentin's special hobby. Even though Quentin wanted to be a romantic Puritan when shooting this movie, but without Melanie, how could he have the intention to shoot other exciting passages?
No anti-structure is also a breakthrough
The story structure of "Pulp Fiction" is called "closed loop", which can be said to be Quentin's classic work of anti-traditional structure. As everyone knows, in every movie in his film career, he actually didn't want to tell the story honestly.
In "Falling Dog", flashbacks are used to fragment the fate of a gang of bank robbers; in "A Dawn", he suddenly turns a road film into a vampire film; "King Kong is not bad" In the movie, the protagonist of the movie waited for nearly an hour before he appeared. Such examples are of course too numerous to list.
Quentin's breakthrough from tradition has never been repetitive, but in this movie, he eliminated the "anti-traditional" characteristics. In a sense, this is also his breakthrough to himself.
The story can be roughly divided into three parts. Before, during and after Jieqi persuaded the three men to cooperate, it can be said to be a very simple one-line narrative. In the early years, there were many single-line narrations, but as people continued to explore the story, the single-line narration was gradually abandoned by the director, and the shooting would feel boring, but Quentin refuted this logic with "Dangerous Relationship". No matter what the story is, as long as the director has the skill, corruption can be turned into magic.
What's more, in this movie, in addition to Quentin's humorous words, tuberculosis can slightly explain the dullness of the single-line narration, and the several long shots are also scary.
The flight attendant Jackie was arrested by the police for transporting property to Odell. After Odell learned, he wanted to put Jackie to death. Odell commissioned the lawyer Max to release Jackie on bail. Because of this, Jackie and Max have a good relationship with each other. On the one hand, Jake persuaded the police that she could arrest Odell, on the one hand she persuaded Odell that she could transport his belongings, and on the other hand, she asked Max to help her. The three men were turned around by the middle-aged flight attendant. In the end, the police beat Odell to death. Jackie was successfully exonerated. Max saw that this woman was a scheming girl. Even if he liked her again, he would not dare to approach this person. .
Especially in the part where Jackie helps Odell transport the property, the police monitors, Odell sends someone to pick it up, and Max helps Jackie to take the money for himself. The long shots can be described as dangerous, thrilling, and worthy of a visit. Look.
The same sentence at the end, if you don't like Quentin's movies, you will be obsessed with him by watching a few more movies; if you like Quentin's movies, this movie may be a little greasy.
